Job Summary

B&A is looking for an Project Accountant to join Celestar, a B&A Company, in support of our Finance & Accounting Department. The candidate may work in one of the following offices: Huntsville, AL; McLean, VA; or Tampa, FL.


Responsibilities

  • Set up project accounts in the accounting system to track financial transactions accurately.
  • Keep detailed records of project-related documents, including contracts, change orders, and other pertinent information.
  • Grant access to project accounts for authorized personnel, ensuring security and accuracy in financial management.
  • Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts as needed.
  • Review and approve supplier invoices related to projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contracts.
  • Review and approve time sheets for work related to projects to ensure accurate labor cost allocation.
  • Review and approve overhead charges applied to projects, ensuring correct allocation of costs.
  • Regularly review account totals related to project assets and expenses to maintain financial accuracy.
  • Investigate project variances and submit detailed variance reports to management, identifying and explaining discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with receivables staff to address unpaid contract billings and ensure timely collection.
  • Report on project profitability to management, highlighting financial performance and trends.
  • Identify and report any opportunities for additional billings to management, maximizing project revenue.
  • Provide management with reports regarding the remaining funding available for projects, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Create or approve all project-related billings to customers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Investigate all project expenses not billed to customers, ensuring all costs are accounted for and billed appropriately.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests for more detail, providing clear and accurate financial information.
  • Approve the write-off of any project-related billings that cannot be billed to or collected from customers, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Close out project accounts upon completion, ensuring all financial transactions are finalized and documented.
  • Prepare and submit government reports and tax returns related to projects, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Compile necessary information for internal and external auditors, providing accurate and comprehensive financial data as required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
