Job description

About the Practice

This occupational health surgical center focuses on caring for patients recovering from work-related injuries. The practice relies on a flexible, on-demand clinical team to staff surgical cases and recovery care as needs arise, and is building a dependable bench of clinicians who want steady, well-supported per-diem work.

Position Summary

The PCU Nurse monitors and cares for patients recovering from surgery in a progressive/step-down care setting, watching closely for changes in condition and coordinating care with the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor post-operative patients' vital signs, telemetry, and overall status.
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, escalating as needed.
  • Document care accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate recovery care with surgeons, anesthesia, and other clinical staff.
  • Support patient comfort, education, and discharge readiness.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Active state RN license in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
  • Prior PCU, step-down, or post-surgical recovery experience preferred.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, short-notice environment.
Schedule & Logistics
  • Shifts are typically posted the evening before, often for an early-morning (around 7:30 AM) start.
  • Most shifts run up to 8 hours; some are shorter, targeted evening shifts (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM), which are especially welcomed.
  • A break is provided before the shift concludes.
  • Shift availability varies by day — clinicians who can flex across the week have the best access to open shifts.
What We Provide
  • All PPE and shift-specific supplies are provided on-site — no need to bring your own equipment.
  • A supportive, experienced surgical and clinical team.
  • Clear shift expectations communicated in advance.
Compensation

Competitive, per-shift pay — rate is confirmed at the time each shift is posted and accepted.
