| Aspect | Programs Intern | Project Coordinator |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically pursuing or holding a degree in related field | Often requires experience or certification in project management |
| Work Environment | Internship setting, learning-focused, entry-level | Professional setting, responsible for coordinating project activities |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Nonprofits, government agencies, educational institutions | Corporations, nonprofits, government sectors |
| Search & Comparison Intent | Entry-level, internship opportunities, learning roles | Entry to mid-level roles, project management responsibilities |
The Programs Intern role is primarily an entry-level, learning-focused position often held by students or recent graduates. In contrast, a Project Coordinator has more responsibility in managing and coordinating specific projects, requiring some experience or certification. While both roles are common in similar industries, the Programs Intern is more about gaining experience, whereas the Project Coordinator handles ongoing project execution.
The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA)*, the private fundraising and alumni relations organization for the UW-Madison, is seeking an Advancement Programs Intern beginning early 2025 with the opportunity to continue into the summer and 2025-2026 academic year. The Advancement Programs Intern will assist with program and event planning, event preparation, event execution, and post event work for the Advancement Programs Team. This role will be active in the planning and execution of WAA’s annual Grandparents University (GPU) which happens in July. This position will also assist with numerous Advancement Program initiatives including the 41-54 pipeline, Bascom Hill and Van Hise Society engagement opportunities, and other relevant programs. The Advancement Program Intern is an ambassadors of WFAA and UW-Madison.
Compensation: $16-17 per hour, based on experience, for an approximate total of 20 hours per week (with the option to increase hours in the summer).
Who is WFAA?
The Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association is a private, nonprofit corporation that encourages individuals and organizations to make gifts to the university and to connect with the UW. In 2014, the UW Foundation merged with the Wisconsin Alumni Association® to better serve a growing population of UW alumni and donors. We believe that private support grows out of good relationships between campus leaders, faculty and program staff who need support, and the alumni and friends who want to invest in UW–Madison. We provide important engagement opportunities to link UW–Madison alumni to each other and to their alma mater, building a strong community of Badgers.
Diversity and Inclusion:
Just as the university community benefits from differing viewpoints, perspectives, and experiences, inclusion and diversity are imperative for the success of our mission. WFAA values people and the differences that they bring to the organization, and creates an environment in which all staff members and constituents feel respected and have opportunities to thrive.
