Job Summary

Are you a visionary leader in psychiatry ready to shape the future of medical education? Join our collaborative, mission-driven team as the Residency Program Director for a new Psychiatry Residency Program launching in 2028.

This is a unique opportunity to build a program from the ground up, influence the next generation of psychiatrists, and expand access to high-quality behavioral healthcare across the communities we serve. The role offers a balanced structure of 50% administrative leadership and 50% clinical practice, allowing you to stay engaged in patient care while driving educational excellence and innovation.

In this role, you will provide strategic leadership, program oversight, and continuous quality improvement, ensuring full compliance with ACGME requirements and institutional policies. You will also foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for residents while leading program development, recruitment, curriculum design, and faculty engagement aligned with ACGME competencies and best practices.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the Psychiatry Residency Program.

  • Oversee resident recruitment,selection, evaluation, promotion, and disciplinary processes.

  • Ensure resident education occurs within a framework of high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Supervise residents and support their professional growth, clinical development, and well-being.

  • Approve, evaluate, and develop program faculty; address performance concerns as needed tomaintainprogram standards.

  • Develop andmaintaina curriculum aligned with ACGME competency domains, promoting scholarly activity and professionalism.

  • Ensureaccurateandtimelyreporting to the DIO, GMEC, and ACGME,maintainingfull regulatory compliance.

  • Foster a safe, inclusive learning environment that encourages feedback, transparency, and continuous improvement.

  • Uphold institutional policies related to grievances, due process, employment practices, and non-discrimination.

  • Maintain active clinical practice, dedicating 50% of time to direct patient care.

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to ensure program stability, growth, and long-term success.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of ACGME competency domains, accreditation standards, and graduate medical education requirements.

  • Proven leadership and program-building skills, with the ability to develop a residency program from the ground up.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor residents and engage faculty effectively.

  • Ability to balance administrative leadership with an active clinical caseload.

  • Sound judgment in handling resident evaluation, promotion, and disciplinary matters in line with institutional policy.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and feedback-driven learning environment.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills to oversee curriculum design and program reporting.

Experience and Education Qualifications

Required

  • Graduation from an accredited school of medicinerequired.

  • Board certification in Psychiatry (ABPN or AOBNP) or equivalent acceptable to the Review Committee.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of documented experience in graduate medical education, including leadership, teaching, or administration.

  • Current DEA licenserequired.

  • Must have or be eligible to obtain admitting privileges at a local hospital.

  • Must meet all credentialing requirements for Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial payers.

  • Ongoing clinical activity in psychiatryrequired.
