UNC-Chapel Hill's Prevention, Advocacy, Therapy, & Harm Reduction (PATH) program serves as a vital co-curricular and Student Success partner in supporting students and the broader campus community regarding substance use education and prevention, risk awareness and mitigation, confidential therapeutic services and case management, and a robust collegiate recovery program. Through partnerships with other campus departments, community agencies, student organizations, and peer mentors, we use evidence-based public health and social work strategies to foster an environment that creates, emphasizes, and supports healthy choices and positive decision-making. We utilize a whole-person, student-centered, non-judgmental, and supportive approach, and are seeking experienced professionals to join our interdisciplinary team.
Position SummaryThe Recovery Programs Coordinator provides strategic vision, development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based collegiate recovery initiatives, services, and outreach efforts, as well as other well-being-related programs. These efforts are delivered within the context of our Dimensions of Wellness, as well as holistic wellness and health promotion endeavors, often working with intersecting topics such as stress reduction, mindfulness, sleep health, nutrition, healthy relationships, alcohol and other drug and violence prevention, and other related student health and well-being indicators. The Coordinator also provides individual support for students and families in or seeking recovery.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsMaster's or Bachelor's and 0-2 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience- Ability to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, team-oriented, and highly collaborative workspace environment.
- Understanding of and/or experience within a recovery community (12-step, SMART, Refuge, Self-defined, etc.).
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting multiple pathways of recovery (including abstinence-based, harm reduction, medication-supported, use management, and other individualized approaches).
- In-depth understanding of the interconnectedness of recovery, prevention, harm reduction, and treatment in supporting individuals' overall well-being.
- Strong coaching and advising skills, with a positive, optimistic perspective, and a motivational, inspirational, and encouraging approach.
- Experience implementing group and/or population-based educational trainings and interventions.
- Peer Support Certification (e.g., NC Certified Peer Support Specialist - CPSS) or a willingness to pursue one.
- One (1) or more years of related, progressively responsible, program development and/or student support efforts experience, preferably within a higher education environment. Two years of related graduate experience will be considered as one full year of experience.
- Prior experience running recovery and substance-related groups is a plus.
- Previous work with established collegiate recovery communities.
- Understanding/passion for promoting holistic wellness as a model for engaging students in recovery.
- Ability to practice problem-solving skills in analyzing health and wellness needs of emerging adults, especially high-achieving college students.
- Ability to work independently and exercise critical and analytical thinking skills to address student and developing staff needs.
- Strong multi-tasking project management, assessment, report writing, and social media/communications skills.
- Experience with engaging diverse collegiate student populations, community organizing, and/or community building.
- Experience in stigma reduction messaging and campaign development.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
