Job Description Manufacturing Engineer - Welding & Automation Location: Lawrenceburg, TN Position Overview Our client is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer with strong experience in welding processes and automation systems within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role focuses on driving process improvements, supporting PLC-controlled systems, and programming robotic welding equipment to improve efficiency, quality, and overall production performance. This is a hands-on technical engineering role that partners closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize manufacturing processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and optimize welding-based manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost performance. Support and troubleshoot PLC control systems and automation-related production issues. Program, maintain, and optimize robotic welding systems (Fanuc experience strongly preferred).
Design and support tooling, fixtures, and layouts using AutoCAD and CAD viewer software. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure compliance with APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and other automotive standards. Support measurement systems, mechanical testing, and process validation activities.
Apply AWS and RWMA standards to ensure welding process quality and compliance. Perform root cause analysis and support corrective actions for process, quality, and equipment issues. Analyze production and engineering data to identify cost savings and process improvement opportunities.
Provide technical leadership and collaborate cross-functionally across engineering, production, and quality teams. Participate in standards development and support engineering best practices within the organization. Stay current with advanced robotics and automation technologies through industry learning and conferences.
Required Qualifications 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a welding process and PLC-controlled environment within automotive or high-volume manufacturing. Strong experience with welding processes and automation systems. Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting and control systems.
Experience with robotic welding programming (Fanuc preferred). Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAD viewer software. Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
Knowledge of AWS and RWMA welding standards. Strong problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Ability to manage multiple technical projects and collaborate across departments.
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Preferred Qualifications Experience in automotive manufacturing environments. Experience with fixture design, tooling development, and process validation.
