Who are we looking for?   

GHD is seeking students to join us as an Engineering Intern within our Transportation team, supporting the delivery of engineering consulting services to a range of clients across the Midwest. This position may be based out of GHD's Markham, Mississauga, Whitby, Toronto, St. Catharines, or Waterloo offices. This internship is ideally structured as a 12-16 month placement, starting in May 2026 and running through August 2027, though shorter durations may also be considered depending on availability, business needs, and school terms.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway and transportation projects from preliminary to final design
  • Design tasks include geometric layouts, roadway alignments, cross-sections, drainage, traffic control, and erosion and sediment control
  • Assist in cost estimates, reports, and technical memos
  • Assist in transportation planning reports, roadway safety studies and general traffic engineering projects
  • Collect, compile and analyze data including traffic, highway, and crash histories
  • Assist in operational analysis for intersections, corridors, and interchange traffic
  • Assist in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects

What you will bring to the team:

  • Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Engineering, Science, Geology/Hydrogeology or related field
  • Ability to learn on the job and apply theory in a practical setting
  • Strong sense of motivation and a thirst for knowledge
  • Takes the initiative to identify ways to assist staff and be ready to help with any task big or small
  • Enjoys building relationships with all people they meet
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both within a team and independently
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast-paced 

* The salary range for this position is $21,00 - $27,00. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
