We are looking for a Deputy Director for the Engineering Operations & Capabilities (EOC) organization within Electronic Systems (ES) Engineering. In this role, you will be a key member of the EOC leadership team setting and driving engineering strategy and key capability initiatives for the ES Sector across the US and UK. You would support the leadership of a borderless organization of 400+ engineers and will support sector wide capability and specialty groups, driving strategic initiatives to advance engineering methods such as, (model-based engineering, DevSecOps, digital infrastructure, Generative AI, tools, etc.), manage test facilities, and lead engineering process and governance across the ES sector. This position will report directly to the Director of the EOC. Key Responsibilities
  • Key leadership team member in setting and driving the EOC strategy for the ES Sector.
  • Act as a transformational leader in embracing and executing modern product realization methods and tools.
  • Support the steering groups for 4 engineering disciplines (Software, Hardware, Systems, and Program Engineering Managers). Partner with the Business Area Engineering Directors (BAEDs) and other business area leaders to ensure business objectives are achieved.
  • Meet financial objectives (Indirect Expenses and Labor Utilization). Collaborate with the IT, Operations, Quality, and Program Excellence organizations to ensure effective product transition and supplier partnerships.
  • Attract, develop, and retain staff to support the business; and develop resource plans supporting ES sector talent needs.
  • Develop and maintain measures related to directorate performance, quality and affordability.
  • Develop and lead continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization.
  • Establish goals and standards of performance, create budgets, short and long-term strategic plans.
  • Understand industry trends and best practices to ensure BAE Systems develops and maintains the capabilities required to provide technical discriminators and competitive advantage in engineering.

Required Skills and Education
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 12+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to formulate a vision, strategy and implement action plans to achieve goals.
  • Extensive technical/engineering leadership experience and ability to create alignment within the organization.
  • Experience in leading fast past efforts across organizational boundaries in a matrixed organization achieving results.
  • Experience leading through rapidly changing environments and technology such as generative AI, digital engineering, model-based engineering, DevSecOps, agile methodology.
  • Experience with product development and the DoD product development lifecycle including core engineering disciplines (systems, software, and hardware) and associated engineering process.
  • Practical understanding of cyber security & assurance in engineering workflows, product development, and digital design environment infrastructures
  • Ability to define, develop and maintain critical skills in support of the business
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and decision-making ability
  • Proven performance in management, mentoring, coaching, and communication

Preferred Skills and Education
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Master's Degree or advanced technical degree with a minimum of 10 years of engineering/management experience.
  • Proven track record of increasing responsibilities in managing dynamic organizations of significant complexity.
  • Experience leading an organization through transformational change.
