RYCO Properties Ltd. is a Calgary-based commercial real estate investment and development company with roots dating back to 1965. Led by President Ryan Sidorsky, the company owns and manages over one million square feet of commercial real estate and more than 800 acres of development land across Calgary and southern Alberta. Development Coordinator

We are seeking a Development Coordinator to join our real estate development team.

Reporting to the Development Manager and working closely with both the Development Manager and VP Development on a day-to-day basis, this is a hands-on, career-building role offering direct exposure to a diverse portfolio of active development projects.

Our projects span new community development, multifamily development, commercial redevelopment, interior renovations, and construction. The successful candidate will have a front-row seat to the development process, from early-stage planning and design through municipal approvals, construction, and project completion.

This role is designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in real estate development. As you gain experience and demonstrate the ability to take on greater project responsibility, the intended career path is to progress from Development Coordinator to Senior Development Coordinator and ultimately Development Manager.

This is not a traditional administrative coordinator position. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, flexible, proactive, and eager to learn, with drafting/design capabilities and practical knowledge of interior design and construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Development Manager and VP Development on day-to-day activities across a variety of active development projects.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, planners, interior designers, contractors, tenants, municipalities, and other stakeholders to keep projects organized and moving forward.
  • Coordinate project meetings, prepare agendas, take clear and accurate meeting notes, track action items, and proactively follow up on outstanding items.
  • Assist with new community, multifamily, commercial redevelopment, renovation, and construction projects through planning, design, approvals, construction, and project close-out.
  • Prepare and revise site plans, floor plans, space plans, tenant layouts, and conceptual drawings using Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar software; review consultant and construction drawings and coordinate comments and revisions.
  • Assist with interior design, space planning, tenant improvements, and landlord work, including layouts, finishes, fixtures, millwork, lighting, and signage.
  • Support land use, development permit, building permit, subdivision, and other municipal approval processes, as well as development feasibility, due diligence, and project research.
  • Attend construction meetings and site visits, monitor progress, and assist with RFIs, quotations, tenders, change orders, deficiencies, and construction coordination.
  • Track project schedules, deadlines, consultant deliverables, approvals, contracts, budgets, invoices, and action items, and maintain organized project records and documentation.
  • Take on increasing project ownership and responsibility as experience and capabilities grow.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Interior Design, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Drafting experience is required, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar software; experience with Revit, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
  • Experience or working knowledge of interior design, space planning, construction, renovations, or tenant improvements, with the ability to read and mark up architectural and construction drawings.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear meeting notes, track action items, and proactively follow up with consultants and contractors.
  • Flexible, proactive, and eager to learn, with a willingness to take on a wide variety of responsibilities and grow within real estate development.
  • Familiarity with real estate development, municipal approvals, or construction coordination is an asset, and candidates should be comfortable working both in the office and on active project sites.

Who We're Looking For

You are organized, dependable, curious, and proactive. You pay close attention to detail, follow through on commitments, and are comfortable following up with others to make sure things get done.

You enjoy variety and are comfortable switching between tasks. On any given day, you might be updating a site plan, coordinating a consultant meeting, taking meeting notes, reviewing drawings, following up with a contractor, researching a development issue, or visiting an active construction site.

Most importantly, you are ambitious and eager to grow. You want to understand the entire development process, gradually take ownership of projects, and build toward managing development projects of your own.

Why This Role

This position is intended to be a career-building opportunity, not simply a coordinator role.

You will work directly alongside the Development Manager and VP Development, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship while being involved in real projects and day-to-day development decisions.

You will gain exposure across the full development lifecycle โ€” from site planning, feasibility and due diligence through land use and municipal approvals, detailed design, subdivision, servicing, construction, occupancy, and project completion.

With projects spanning new communities, multifamily development, commercial redevelopment, interior renovations, and construction, you will develop a broad skill set across different asset classes and stages of development.

As your knowledge, judgment, and project management capabilities develop, you will be expected to take on increasing ownership of projects and responsibilities, with an intended progression to Senior Development Coordinator and ultimately Development Manager.

For someone with a drafting, architectural, interior design, construction, or planning background who wants to build a career in real estate development, this role offers the opportunity to learn the business from the ground up and develop into a well-rounded development professional.
