Job Summary
Wilberforce University is a small, mission-driven, career-focused institution with growing programs in STEM and applied fields, emphasizing workforce readiness, experiential learning, and industry and graduate school partnerships, and a legacy as the nation's first private HBCU. Faculty in Engineering are expected to advance the University's mission and core values through dedicated service, compliance with all institutional and academic policies, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a strong commitment to student and institutional success. Broad responsibilities include high-quality teaching, curriculum development, research and grant writing, and service to the University and community. Candidates must demonstrate instructional proficiency across multiple modalities (in-person, virtual, and online). This appointment begins in Fall 2026 and is subject to the availability of funds.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Primary teaching responsibilities include electrical engineering, computer science, and computer engineering courses.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering majors.
  • Engage in and maintain active scholarly research activities.
  • Establish an externally funded research program.
  • Assist with ABET accreditation processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees and engage in other forms of service to the university and academic community.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, (from a regionally accredited or equivalent institution) and show outstanding promise in scholarship, research, or creative activity.
  • Candidates with ABDs considered but must have a conferred Ph.D. by August 1, 2026.
  • Preferred candidates must have demonstrated expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Database Theory, Data Analytics, Data Mining, Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing.

Prior Teaching Experience at a U.S. college or university or equivalent institution.
