Overview

AprilAire is currently seeking an Engineering Manager - Hardware to join us at our Sun Prairie Innovation Center! In this role you will oversee and coordinate activityย within the internalย hardwareย engineering team, with responsibilitiesย that include communication and coordination across all engineering groups.ย Youย will also be responsible forย the robust taskย  of developingย processes, creating and tracking KPIs, and providing mentorship as well as technicalย and projectย oversight forย the hardwareย team as needed.


Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the scope and schedule determination for theย hardwareย development and testingย portionย of projectsย 
  • Plan and oversee the execution of sprints within theย hardwareย teamย (including story pointing, retrospectives, and prioritization of tasks with input from stakeholders/project managers)ย 
  • Triageย hardwareย issues raised andย assignย to theย appropriate engineerย 
  • Define and manage hardware, simulation, test, and validation performance requirements for new productsย 
  • Collaborate on circuit design, schematics, layout, analysis, and documentationย 
  • Own hardware architecture requirements andย designย specification documentsย ย 
  • Conduct design reviews and translate findings into actionable tasksย 
  • Develop complete PCB designs, including schematics and layoutsย 
  • Provide oversite for obsolescence management and other life cycle support requirementsย 
  • Suggest and contribute to the development of R&D conceptsย 
  • Continuously improveย development processes based onย cutting edgeย best-practicesย 
  • Ensure the team followsย approved hardwareย design and reviewย processesย 
  • Track and reportย hardwareย KPIs including schedule status, sprint velocity,ย andย hardware testย findingsย 
  • Act asย aย point of contact for specification clarity and alignmentย 
  • Communicate deliverables to test teamsย and other stakeholders.ย ย 
  • Updateย managerย withย bi-weekly sprintย reportsย 
  • Identifyย andย appropriatelyย flag risksย ย 
  • Contribute to andย participateย in gate reviewsย 
  • Collaborate with product owner, program manager, and stakeholders to define project milestones, requirements, and estimate task efforts for our hardware developmentย 
  • Provide oversightย and mentorship forย hardwareย engineers.ย ย 
  • Assistย projectย managersย in keeping track ofย hardwareย development and testingย portions of the schedule and budgetย 
  • Work closely with qualityย team to develop andย maintainย processes toย validateย hardwareย 
  • Build a diverse and high-performing team through strategic hiring, talent development, and effective role alignmentย 
  • Management of external hardware resourcesย used to supplement our internal engineers, as neededย 
  • Set and manage individual and team goals focused on capability building, efficiency, and performanceย 
  • Willing and capable of travelling between AprilAireย facilities, suppliers, and customers. Expected amount of travel is smallย (1-2 trips a year outside of WI)ย 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 7-10ย yearsย ofย experience as aย hardware engineer.ย 
  • 1-3 years ofย projectย managementย orย peopleย leadershipย experience.ย 
  • Outstandingย written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Experience in hardware reliability analysis, FMEA required.
  • Experience in conducting root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Experience in document creation including specifications, design descriptions, design & test reports.
  • Experience designing products for manufacture.ย 
  • Experience with electrical CAD tools, preferably Altium Designer.ย 
  • Experience with increasing responsibility in project development withย demonstratedย leadership successย 
  • Organizational, coordination, and multi-tasking experienceย 
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit designย principals, including PCB layout and design for EMC.
