Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Halifax office.

Do you like to work in a team environment to solve challenging structural problems?  We have an exciting opportunity for a senior professional to be part of our Structural Engineering practice in the Halifax area. The successful candidate will assist in the growth, mentorship and technical aspect of the Structural team focusing on the Buildings, Industrial, Electrical Utility, Material Handling and Heavy Civil structures side of the practice.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be a natural problem solver, have strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.  Experience with industry standard software such as ETABS, SAP 2000, Lusas and Revit would be considered an asset.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management, including financial management, resource management, change order management, and invoicing;
  • Business Development in the Atlantic provinces;
  • Design calculations and analysis;
  • Coordination of design support staff;
  • Provide mentoring and technical support to junior staff members;
  • Preparation of technical specification and construction documents;
  • Construction contract administration;
  • Periodic site work including meetings, field reviews and measurements; and
  • Meet and liaise with clients;

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Structural Design, a Master’s degree in Civil (Structural Engineering) considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 10 (ten) years’ experience in the structural design of buildings (all types) and/or industrial structures (including material handling, electrical utility support structures, heavy civil) and water tank/retaining structures.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada with eligibility for registration with Engineers NS (ENS) as well as the other Atlantic provinces.
  • Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Detail oriented, organized, hardworking, with a team player attitude.
  • Ability to balance professional commitments to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and be able to travel to job sites within Atlantic Canada.
