Programmer - Steel Fabrication Plant

Department: Engineering / Manufacturing

Reports To: Engineering Manager / Manufacturing Manager

Position Summary

The Programmer supports steel fabrication operations by developing, maintaining, and optimizing programming solutions that drive CNC machinery, fabrication equipment, and production systems. This role translates engineering drawings and production requirements into accurate, efficient programs to ensure quality, productivity, and safe operation across fabrication processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit, and maintain programs for CNC equipment 
  • Translate engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications into machine-ready programs
  • Optimize programs to reduce cycle time, material waste, and setup time
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Production, and Quality to resolve programming or manufacturing issues
  • Perform program troubleshooting and make real-time adjustments
  • Maintain documentation for programs and revisions
  • Support new product launches and first-article prove-outs

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of programming experience in a steel fabrication or metal manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings 
  • Experience programming CNC fabrication equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with steel plate or structural fabrication
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software
  • Experience with ERP or MRP systems

Working Conditions

Manufacturing environment with exposure to shop noise, heat, and machinery. Combination of office and shop-floor work.
