Job Description

The Engineering Support Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that engineering, construction, and installation teams are fully equipped and operationally prepared to execute fiber deployment efficiently. This role combines network engineering responsibilities with deployment enablement by supporting fiber network design, capacity management, and overall operational readiness of Brightspeed's infrastructure. The position focuses on aligning resources, materials, network capacity, and field readiness to drive seamless execution from construction through customer activation. The ideal candidate anticipates issues before they impact the field, leverages tools such as IQGeo to ensure accurate network design, manages capacity across fiber terminals, and brings structure, urgency, and accountability to fast-moving environments to improve deployment efficiency and reduce installation delays.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Engineering

  • Develop, validate, and maintain fiber network designs using IQGeo and related GIS platforms
  • Ensure accuracy of splice plans, terminal layouts, and network configurations
  • Review and validate designs against construction and operational requirements
  • Support engineering standards and continuous improvement of design practices

Capacity Management & Network Planning

  • Monitor and manage capacity across fiber terminals, distribution networks, and serving areas
  • Identify capacity constraints and drive resolution through design updates or augmentation planning
  • Partner with planning and engineering teams to support scalable network growth
  • Ensure capacity readiness aligns with customer activation demand

Deployment Readiness & Engineering Validation

  • Ensure alignment between network design, construction completion, and service activation readiness
  • Identify and resolve design, capacity, or documentation gaps impacting installations
  • Validate network readiness prior to release for customer activation

Resource Coordination & Field Enablement

  • Coordinate availability and staging of materials, equipment, and network assets to support deployment timelines
  • Align resource planning with engineering designs, capacity forecasts, and build schedules
  • Partner with vendors, warehouses, and field teams to ensure proper inventory levels and asset availability
  • Identify and resolve resource or material gaps that could delay installations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as liaison across Engineering, Construction, Supply Chain, and Installation Operations
  • Support field teams and wire center leadership in resolving network and readiness issues
  • Provide engineering guidance to vendors and internal stakeholders

Operational Efficiency & Process Improvement

  • Standardize workflows across engineering validation and deployment readiness
  • Improve installation cycle times by reducing design and resource-related delays
  • Drive improvements across tools, systems, and coordination processes

Tracking, Reporting & Accountability

  • Maintain visibility into network capacity, design status, and deployment readiness
  • Track resource utilization, material availability, and deployment blockers
  • Provide reporting and insights to leadership for planning and execution decision

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

  • Combination of office, field, and light warehouse/facility environments
  • Occasional lifting and handling of equipment and materials (up to ~50 lbs)
  • Ability to support field readiness activities as needed
Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

Education & Experience

  • 2-7+ years of experience in telecom engineering, fiber network design, network operations, or deployment support
  • Strong understanding of OSP fiber design, construction workflows, and network architecture
  • Experience supporting large-scale fiber deployment programs

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with IQGeo, GIS platforms, or similar network design systems
  • Knowledge of fiber terminal design, capacity planning, and network optimization
  • Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering drawings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and analysis

Core Competencies

  • Strong cross-functional coordination and communication skills
  • Highly organized with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, evolving environments
