Job description

Title: Field Engineer (Utility Construction - PG&E Programs)
Location: Anderson, CA (100% On-Site Field Role)
We are actively seeking a Field Engineer to support utility construction operations on PG&E projects throughout the Redding area.
  • This is not a remote or work-from-home position.
  • This role requires a daily presence in the field, working directly alongside crews, General Foremen, and project teams at active jobsites.
  • Candidates must be located in Northern California or willing to relocate prior to start. Out-of-state and remote-only applicants will not be considered.

Position Overview
The Field Engineer serves as the critical link between field operations and project management, ensuring projects are organized, documented, and executed efficiently in real time.
This is a hands-on, field-driven role, not a traditional engineering position (no design/PE work). Success in this role requires strong organizational discipline, communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in fast-paced jobsite environments.
You will be expected to:
  • Be physically present in the field daily
  • Support crews where the work is happening

Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Field Support
  • Prepare, organize, and distribute construction job packages, field binders, and documentation
  • Work directly with General Foremen to develop, submit, and track Contractor Work Checklists (CWC's)
  • Act as a communication bridge between field crews, subcontractors, project management, and PG&E
  • Support job readiness reviews to ensure projects are fully staged before mobilization

Scheduling & Operations Tracking
  • Maintain accurate project data (scheduling, outages, subcontractors, cost adders)
  • Coordinate subcontractors and field logistics to prevent delays
  • Track daily production for civil and electrical scopes
  • Update Electronic Production Tool (EPT) with installed units and quantities

Permitting, Compliance & Utility Coordination
  • Manage USA 811 dig tickets, including tracking and renewals
  • Coordinate inspections with PG&E and internal QA/QC teams
  • Schedule required inspectors and ensure compliance with PG&E standards

Material & Logistics Coordination
  • Coordinate material releases and deliveries ahead of field needs
  • Track and stage materials for upcoming work
  • Assist PM team with material usage and forecasting

Project Documentation & Closeout
  • Compile documentation for billing and invoicing support
  • Maintain organized project records and files
  • Assist in preparing project closeout packages
  • Ensure accuracy of field reports and unit tracking

Work Environment
  • 100% field-based across active construction sites
  • Daily interaction with field crews and supervision
  • Fast-paced, multi-project environment

Qualifications
  • 1-4 years of experience in utility, civil, or electrical construction
  • PG&E experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling tools
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in active field environments
  • Clear communication skills with both field and office teams

What We're Looking For
  • Self-sufficient, field-first mindset
  • Comfortable being on jobsites every day
  • Proactive communicator who solves problems in real time
  • Someone who wants to grow into project management within utility construction

Competitive wage rate and excellent benefits package including employer paid medical, dental, vision, 401(k), personal time off and holiday pay.
Wilson Construction Co. is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
