Job description

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Database Administrator to join our IT department. This position performs advanced technical data processing work involving the development, enhancement, and maintenance of highly complex computer applications. This role is responsible for assessing user requirements, translating logical designs into effective technical solutions, designing and implementing system applications, and managing projects from conception through installation. Work is performed under limited supervision and requires a high level of independent judgment, technical expertise, and collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Success in this role requires the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, build strong customer relationships, and work collaboratively to achieve shared objectives. The Senior Programmer Analyst gains the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity while consistently achieving results, even under challenging circumstances. This position demands sound and timely decision-making, the ability to analyze complex information, and a commitment to continuous learning through experimentation and professional development.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct analysis of defined computer-oriented system problems and develop feasible solutions in accordance with industry standards.
  • Assess user requirements and translate logical designs into effective technical solutions.
  • Design application systems and develop detailed design specifications.
  • Perform difficult and specialized programming assignments.
  • Maintain systems and respond promptly to production issues and user concerns.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and correct application software problems to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop detailed project plans using standard project management tools and methodologies.
  • Manage projects from concept through implementation and installation.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a computer-related field with 2 years of experience OR 5 years of experience OR any combination of relevant education and experience.


Preferred qualifications:

  • ORACLE development experience; experience with SQL or PL/SQL; MS Access/Word/Excel; UNIX


Salary: Begins at $76,599 if annualized (includes a 13% premium for this position)
