Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Engineering Department at Estate Yountville, ensuring the resort's facilities, guest rooms, villas, public spaces, restaurants, spa, pools, and back-of-house areas consistently reflect the luxury standards of the property.

This leader is the champion of the resort's Preventive Maintenance Program and is responsible for developing, executing, and continuously improving a proactive maintenance strategy that preserves the property's physical assets while delivering an exceptional guest experience. Success in this role is measured by the condition of the resort, the reliability of its infrastructure, and the ability to identify and resolve maintenance opportunities before they become guest issues.

The Engineering Manager works in close partnership with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Spa, Landscaping, and all operational departments to ensure every guest room and public space is maintained to the highest standard every day.

Primary Responsibilities

Preventive Maintenance Leadership

  • Own and lead the Estate Yountville Preventive Maintenance Program, ensuring all guest rooms, villas, public spaces, restaurants, spa facilities, pools, mechanical equipment, and back-of-house areas are maintained proactively.
  • Develop and manage annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance work is completed on time, documented accurately, and meets luxury resort standards.
  • Continuously evaluate equipment performance, identify recurring issues, and implement long-term solutions to reduce reactive maintenance and extend asset life.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance completion rates and hold the Engineering team accountable for achieving departmental goals.

Guest Rooms & Housekeeping Partnership

  • Work closely with the Housekeeping leadership team to ensure every guest room is maintained in exceptional condition and ready to exceed guest expectations.
  • Conduct regular joint inspections with Housekeeping to identify maintenance opportunities before guest arrival.
  • Prioritize room repairs to maximize room availability while maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Respond quickly to room maintenance concerns and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly.
  • Support room refresh initiatives and maintain consistent room presentation throughout the resort.

Public Areas & Resort Appearance

  • Partner with Housekeeping and Landscaping to ensure all public spaces, walkways, courtyards, pools, restaurants, event venues, and guest amenities remain clean, safe, and impeccably maintained.
  • Perform routine inspections throughout the property to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure immediate follow-up.
  • Maintain the physical appearance of the resort to reflect Estate Yountville's luxury positioning and Forbes service standards.

Engineering Operations

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering team while fostering accountability, teamwork, and a service-first culture.
  • Manage daily work orders and engineering assignments, ensuring timely completion and quality workmanship.
  • Maintain all building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, pools, boilers, kitchen equipment, and life safety systems.
  • Coordinate routine vendor services and ensure contractors perform work safely and to company standards.
  • Participate in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program and provide operational support during high-occupancy periods and special events.

Success Measures

  • Preventive Maintenance completion rate of 95% or greater.
  • Consistently guest-ready rooms with minimal maintenance-related out-of-order inventory.
  • Luxury-level presentation of all public spaces and resort facilities.
  • Reduced emergency repairs and reactive maintenance.
  • Strong partnership and communication with Housekeeping and Operations.
  • Positive guest feedback related to room condition and overall property appearance.
  • Compliance with all safety, regulatory, and life safety requirements.
  • A highly engaged, accountable, and well-trained Engineering team committed to maintaining the Estate Yountville standard of excellence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods of time
  • Frequent use of hands, arms, and upper body to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and electrical equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds independently, and greater weights with assistance or mechanical equipment
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, temperatures, noise levels, and lighting
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and uneven surfaces while maintaining balance and adherence to safety protocols
