Position Summary
 
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering, the Engineering Manager, is responsible for the implementation of the engineering function, project and program management, continuous improvement, and utility management. This position will support all activities related to procurement of spare parts, engineering store and inventory of parts. In addition, the Engineering Manager will supervise the negotiation requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and subcontractors. They will work towards developing detailed execution plans for projects and will execute the plans within budget by organizing and controlling project elements to ensure Right First Time (RFT). The Engineering Manager will plan for productivity improvement, waste elimination, process engineering, and technology absorption, execute energy Optimization Management, and cost saving techniques/measures to achieve reduction in expenditures while ensuring budget restrictions are met.
 
Position Responsibilities
 
  • Study current machines, utility designs, and layout to find opportunities for process, engineering improvements.
  • Work with the operations team to find and implement continuous improvement initiatives through various projects.
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans in agreement with stakeholders.
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, requirements, and performance standards. Review quotes from contractors, prepares cost estimates and Capex proposals.
  • Identify project phases and elements. Determine project schedules by studying project plan and specifications. Calculate time requirements by sequencing the project elements.
  • Control project plans by reviewing design, specifications, plan and schedule changes. Recommend actions and maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress. Coordinate activities, anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Participate in internal, external customer/contractor meetings and resolves project issues. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and recommend actions.
  • Control project costs by monitoring expenditures and maintains project data base on computer and Microsoft Project. Enter and back up data.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with Regulatory/Statutory regulations.
  • Confirm project performance by conducting tests/trials of installed machinery. 
  • Implement policies, procedures, and systems for capex management as defined by Ofi Spices and the Global Engineering function.
  • Contribute to sustainable development initiatives and carry out site inspections and energy surveys. Benchmark energy consumptions against best practice guidelines.
  • Monitor energy consumption and maintain accurate records to carry out energy data analysis and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Establish and comply with engineering Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), benchmarking against best in class to validate performance and improvements in engineering practices.
  • Remain abreast of current legislation and ensure corporate compliance. Ensure understanding of AB-32 reporting and Cap and Trade policies in California.
  • Develop and deliver operations and technical training, including engineering training, of critical machines and equipment to employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Oversight at our Gilroy, CA and Firebaugh, CA locations. Travel is required.
  • Our division has other processing plants within North America, and this position may be required to manage projects and help as needed in these plants. This may require travel to these plants.
 
Position Requirements
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of Ten (10) years of related engineering experience in food, pharmaceutical or chemical industry is required.
  • Proven experience in project planning, equipment planning, estimations, execution, and commissioning protocols is required.
  • Demonstrated current knowledge of environmental and sustainability initiatives for food business and experience implementing innovative solutions is required.
  • Good working knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and business environment with an excellent business analysis ability is required.
  • Effective leadership abilities within a team are required.  Should have the ability to influence and manager other internal customers and external suppliers/contractors to ensure the timely success of each project.
 
The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $105,000 - $160,000 and is based on position responsibilities and geographic location. Actual pay within this range may be determined based on candidate’s experience, qualifications and/or other determining factors.
