Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Leads, directs and motivates a technical design staff, which includes telecommunication engineers, designers, drafters, contract administrators, and other professionals. Ensures that design documents and construction packages produced for telecom, transmission line, and substation project work are devoid of any errors or omissions. Ensures that the designs reflect the use of industry best practices and adherence to company and department standards. The manager facilitates fulfillment of cost and schedule commitments made to their departments and optimal use of the company's engineering resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads, directs and motivates a technical design staff, which includes telecommunications engineers, designers, drafters, contract administrators and project manager Professionals:
  • Provides high quality engineering drawings and construction packages for telecommunication, transmission line, and substation projects in accordance with schedule and cost commitments made to other departments. (15%)
  • Develops and ensures that telecommunication system, equipment, settings and testing practices are consistent and standardized. (30%)
  • Provides on-demand, responsive engineering support when complex system engineering, project construction, or operations and maintenance related issues arise. (10%)
  • Established and skillfully manages departmental and capital budgets, ensuring good use of company capital and full attainment of departmental and corporate financial goals. (10%)
  • Directs personnel activities of staff (i.e. hires, trains, rewards, disciplines, motivates, etc). (10%)
  • Provides cost estimates to planning departments to support feasibility analysis or cost/benefit comparison of various alternatives. (15%)
  • Cultivated and fosters a team environment, establishes team and individual performance goals aligned with company goals, monitors progress toward the completion of these goals and bridge performance gaps in a timely manner to ensure excellent productivity and full achievement of established goals. (20%)
  • Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.

Requirements
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • 0-20 Years of experience in relatable field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Electric Utility Telecommunications engineering, construction, maintenance and operating practices.
  • Analytical, interpersonal, and motivating
  • Manage and lead multiple projects and organize and oversee the work of a team.
  • Oral and written communications, organizing, planning, prioritizing, problem solving skills and communicate with internal customers, external developers, engineering firms, vendors and suppliers.
  • Equipment and Applications: PCs, word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database software. AutoCAD, Project Management Software, and specialty engineering programs.
  • Work Environment:
  • General office environment. Ability to navigate uneven terrain. Some overnight travel required.
