Elev8 AmeriCorps Program
Safe Passages is a non-profit organization based in Oakland, CA. We work to improve the lives of children, youth, and families through education programs, community partnerships, and public advocacy. We are looking for passionate, motivated, and dedicated individuals like you to join our AmeriCorps program for a year of service starting in August 2026.
AmeriCorps members serve at school sites in Oakland and Emeryville in teams of 3 to 10. Members are trained to provide tutoring and mentoring to students in Reading, Writing, and Math. No previous teaching experience is necessary-just a passion for working with youth and making a difference. Check out our website to learn more about our program and what to expect.
Safe Passages is looking for compassionate, motivated individuals to serve as AmeriCorps Elev8 Members-supporting K-12 students in building confidence, resilience, and social emotional learning.
Responsibilities (Your Impact):
  • Support student success by providing tutoring and education to K-12 students on subjects such as Reading, Writing and Math.

  • Build meaningful, positive connections with students through mentorship and daily engagement that support student's academic and social-emotional growth.

  • Lead creative and engaging lesson plans, activities, games, and projects with students.

  • Collaborate with Safe Passages staff, teachers, school staff and other AmeriCorps members.

  • Support school events, family engagement nights, and community projects.

  • Assist in collecting and tracking data on outreach efforts and student support services.

  • Participate in regular trainings, team meetings, and professional development to enhance skills in community outreach, education, youth development, and leadership.

  • Commitment to full term of service

  • Must be 17+ at time of service start
