Join the NASA CPSS II team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) 2 to support the Science and Technology Office (STO). This is your opportunity to contribute to the Artemis missions and shape the future of space exploration.
Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the senior programmatic subject matter expert (SME) in one or more specialized disciplines, including but not limited to strategic planning, project planning, requirements management, independent assessments, stakeholder management, or related functional areas.
  • Provide enterprise-level technical and programmatic expertise to program managers, project teams, and executive leadership on high-impact initiatives and complex organizational challenges.
  • Lead major technology, business, or programmatic initiatives, providing strategic direction, technical oversight, and expert guidance throughout project execution.
  • Develop and implement innovative methodologies, frameworks, and best practices that improve organizational performance, operational effectiveness, and mission success.
  • Plan, prioritize, and lead multiple high-impact assignments while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, customer requirements, and strategic priorities.
  • Evaluate program, project, and organizational performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities, and recommend significant process, policy, or organizational improvements.
  • Perform independent assessments and comprehensive evaluations of programs, processes, systems, and organizational performance, providing strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Function as the technical authority across multiple programs or projects, providing expert consultation on complex issues and supporting critical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with government customers, industry partners, technical organizations, and executive stakeholders to resolve complex programmatic challenges.
  • Develop executive-level reports, strategic plans, white papers, presentations, and recommendations supporting organizational and customer objectives.
  • Mentor senior technical staff and project teams, fostering knowledge transfer, professional development, and implementation of best practices.
  • Contribute to organizational strategy, business development initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts through subject matter expertise and technical leadership.
  • Ensure deliverables, performance metrics, and program objectives are achieved in accordance with contractual requirements and organizational standards.
  • Remain current on emerging technologies, industry trends, government policies, and best practices within assigned areas of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA.
  • Minimum of 20 years of applicable professional experience.
  • Recognized expert in one or more specialized disciplines, such as strategic planning, project planning, requirements management, stakeholder management, independent assessments, technology integration, or related programmatic functions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading major technology, business, or organizational initiatives with significant strategic impact.
  • Comprehensive knowledge across multiple functional areas and the ability to provide technical leadership on complex, high-visibility assignments.
  • Proven ability to evaluate organizational performance and develop strategic recommendations that improve project execution and organizational success.
  • Experience serving as the technical authority or lead subject matter expert across multiple projects or programs.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to address complex organizational challenges.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, including experience briefing executive leadership and government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence organizational decision-making, and drive successful outcomes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance, if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, Systems Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or other Federal government aerospace and research and development programs.
  • Professional certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, or other relevant industry certifications.
  • Experience leading enterprise-level transformation initiatives, technology modernization efforts, or strategic organizational planning.
  • Demonstrated experience advising executive leadership on policy, strategy, organizational performance, and mission execution.
  • Experience supervising technical teams or leading multidisciplinary organizations.
