Job Description
ROLE of the POSITION
This position works under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Retention and Outreach and is responsible for direct oversight and administration of the federally funded college-level programs and Student Support initiatives at UNLV. These programs include TRIO Student Support Services grants, TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program, Title III AANAPISI, Basic Needs, Hope and Fostering Scholars, SNAP E&T, Emergency Scholarships, Food Pantry and other related projects. This position also works and regularly communicates with all members of CAEO's leadership team, UNLV colleges/departments and community partners to ensure collaboration, effective program administration and adherence to compliance.
The senior director is accountable for consistently meeting all of the objectives outlined in each grant proposal, as assigned. The senior director also ensures provision of Basic Needs and Emergency Support services to current UNLV students. These services include the following: addressing food insecurity and financial instability through a food pantry, emergency funding, SNAP navigation and referrals, as well as targeted support for vulnerable student populations, including students experiencing homelessness, former foster youth, and other at-risk learners. Furthermore, the senior director is responsible for submitting quarterly and annual performance reports, as mandated by the funding agency and the AVP. The senior director is also responsible for ongoing participant identification and selection, eligible participant placement in the program where each student will gain maximum benefit, public promotion of services, short and long-term planning, directing programs' services, and budgeting for all programmatic efforts to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and university mandates, as well with CAEO and project specific objectives. The senior director provides effective leadership and supervision to a staff of administrative faculty, classified employees, graduate assistants, temporary student and other hourly workers. The senior director is responsible for promoting collaboration among all programs housed at CAEO and is expected to enhance and maintain a well-functioning 'secondary to post-baccalaureate' pipeline for CAEO's program participants. The senior director leads and supports strategic initiatives in conjunction with other program directors and staff; serves as an advocate for all CAEO programs, as well as a liaison with the host institution, local, state and federal agencies, community organizations, and the general public. The senior director is also expected to be a major contributor in conducting the grant-related research supporting the vision and mission of CAEO
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in comparable role. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. Candidate must possess experience coordinating or managing federally funded TRIO, GEAR UP, or similar projects, including budget development and management, monitoring of compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, personnel supervision and training, and completion of mandatory performance reports. This position must have excellent speaking and writing skills and must possess exceptional knowledge of TRIO legislation, regulations, project management and operations, and service practices. Significant knowledge and experience in grant writing and/or business writing is required. Must have a complete and thorough understanding of the Title III, Title IV TRIO Programs, grant writing process and grant program management, applicable laws, codes and regulations. Must demonstrate knowledge of counseling and instructional evaluative methods, program coordination and marketing, and supervisory and organizational strategies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral Degree from an accredited college or university and ten (10) plus years of related professional experience. Significant experience in collaborating with organization personnel and community partners to direct and manage high level initiatives, personnel, projects, and resources in order to meet organizational objectives. Direct experience with AANAPISI, GEAR UP, social services or similar grant-funded projects, as well as direct experience managing in a higher educational setting, is preferred. Candidates should possess significant experience in collaborating with organization personnel and community partners to direct and manage high level initiatives, personnel, projects, and resources in order to meet organizational objectives. The ability to perform multiple responsibilities or tasks simultaneously, work in a self-directed environment, as well as plan and organize on both a daily and long-term basis is critical. Advanced leadership and interpersonal communication skills are vital, since the ability to maintain effective relationships with students, administrators and the community has an impact on the success of this position. Candidates should be able to demonstrate effective time management skills and good computer skills. Experience with maintaining and overseeing online communication with students is also preferred.
