Community Nutrition Program Support Assistant

Full-time | Monday–Friday | Temp-to-Hire

Picture your morning in Leander, TX: the kitchen hums, the day’s menu is posted, volunteers arrive with smiles, and you’re the steady hand helping everything run on time. Partnering with a local non-profit’s Meals on Wheels program, you’ll make sure older adults receive nutritious meals safely and reliably—while supporting a close-knit team that cares about every detail.

A Day in the Role

From opening to close, you’ll keep the site moving:

  • Assist with meal prep, portioning, packaging, and timely distribution to Meals on Wheels participants.
  • Support daily kitchen operations—prepping ingredients, serving meals, and following food safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Label, date, and properly store food and supplies to maintain compliance and quality.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment (dishwashers, ovens, and prep tools) with care.
  • Wash dishes, cookware, and utensils; clean and sanitize workstations, dining areas, refrigerators, freezers, and storage spaces.
  • Track inventory, help post menus, and complete kitchen documentation accurately.
  • Answer phones, handle data entry, and provide general office and volunteer support.
  • Coordinate with volunteers and assist with daily site activities.
  • Back up the Site Director, Lead Cook, and teammates wherever needed—while maintaining confidentiality and delivering professional service.
You’ll Thrive Here If You Have
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and current auto insurance.
  • Food Handler Certification (or you can obtain it quickly).
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Clear, friendly communication and outstanding customer service.
  • Strong organization and multitasking skills in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience in kitchens, food service, caregiving, nonprofits, or customer service is helpful but not required.
Physical Realities of the Work
  • On your feet and moving: standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying up to 45 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Working comfortably in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Safely operating a motor vehicle for scheduled meal deliveries.
