Job description

The Specialist serves as the primary program facilitator, builds relationships with youth, parents/guardians, volunteers, schools, and community partners, and supports statewide Youth in Government programming in alignment with YMCA values.

Rate of pay: $15.50. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Delivery
• Implement the YMCA Youth in Government curriculum.
• Facilitate workshops on government, leadership, debate, judicial processes, and civic engagement.
• Create a positive learning environment.
• Adapt instruction to participant needs.

Youth Leadership Development
• Coach participants in leadership and communication.
• Mentor delegates preparing legislative bills and judicial cases.
• Promote civic responsibility and ethical leadership.

Conference Planning & Participation
• Prepare participants for the Model Legislative and Judicial Conference.
• Coordinate registrations, logistics, and communications.
• Supervise participants during conferences and events.

Family & Participant Engagement
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and events.
• Provide ongoing participant support.

Program Administration
• Maintain attendance and participant records.
• Assist with recruitment, enrollment, retention, reporting, and evaluation.

Collaboration & Community Partnerships
• Collaborate with YMCA staff, schools, advisors, and volunteers.
• Represent the YMCA Youth in Government program in the community.

Safety & Risk Management
• Follow YMCA policies and child protection standards.
• Maintain required certifications and trainings.

Other Responsibilities
• Participate in meetings and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Two years of experience working with youth, civic engagement, education, leadership development, or related field.

Preferred Qualification

• Associate’s degree
• Workshop facilitation and conference coordination experience
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of government processes.
• Excellent facilitation, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to engage and mentor youth.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
