The Project Management Director is responsible for the proper execution of the projects under their responsibility, within the budgeted deadlines and costs, and to the satisfaction of the client. They will oversee complex projects, provide strategic direction, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.

The following responsibilities form the core of this role in our Canadian team. 

  • Manage a team of Project Managers and System Engineers that coordinates the activities of project team members from different departments.
  • Perform workload forecast to ensure the Project Management department is properly staffed to execute the projects portfolio.
  • Structures the launch of all new projects, sets financial objectives and the operating strategy with the team;
  • Ensures the project teams do the general and detailed planning and coordination of activities required to meet established contractual and financial objectives with all the departments;
  • Ensures the project teams meet compliance with contractual obligations, technical specifications, quality and health & safety standards from Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing and at Site, as well as the timely performance of all activities related to each project under their supervision;
  • Defines claim negotiation strategies with the Project Managers and potentially leads commercial negotiations with the customer on larger, more complex claims;
  • Escalates critical issues to other Department Managers and helps define and supports the mitigation or resolution plan(s);
  • Reviews the documentation related to the monthly and quarterly project review prepared by the Project Managers;
  • Reports to senior management on a regular basis as to the status of projects in his / her portfolio;
  • Performs a risk & opportunity evaluation and details the possible financial variances with regard to the established objectives;
  • Analyzes, defines and implements a contingency plan in collaboration with the Project Managers to correct any failure or inadequacy that can have a direct impact on the results of the project (costs, deadlines, quality...);
  • Ensures the project teams do a proper completion of a project once activities are completed;
  • Handles special projects as assigned.

  • Mechanical or Civil Engineer/Technologist or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in the field of Hydro or heavy metal fabrication and related manufacturing activities;
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the field of project management
  • Experience in the management and leading of direct reports;
  • Experience with on site/construction activities;
  • Proven experience and accomplishments related to the efficient management of projects with an inherent complexity and an accelerated schedule.
  • Proven leadership and team spirit, innovative;
  • Proven negotiation skills to handle project changes and claims resolution;
  • Excellent listening skills as well verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in French and in English.
  • Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines;
  • Strong professionalism and tact in representing the company to our internal and external customers;
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office;
  • Availability to travel, as necessary.
  • Bachelor of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (an asset).
  • PMP Certificate (an asset).
