Position:                              Deli Manager

Work Location:                 Winkler Food Store 

                                                On-site work only. No remote work available 

Status:                                  Full-Time, Permanent

Shifts:                                   Must be available for weekday shifts, occasional evening shifts

and a rotation of Saturday and/or Sunday shifts.

What you'll do:

The Deli Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the deli department and for leading and developing the deli team, driving exceptional customer service, and ensuring the highest standards in product quality, food safety, cleanliness, and operational execution. The Deli Manager oversees daily production, inventory management, merchandising, safety and is responsible to ensure consistent and profitable operations.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Living the Brand: 

Consistently represent and uphold the Co-op brand by demonstrating Gardenland Co-op's vision, mission, and values in all interactions.

Act as a Co-op ambassador with a strong understanding of the Cooperative Retailing System and the cooperative business model.

Operational Oversight:

Execute day-to-day responsibilities of the department ensuring efficiency and adherence to department standards and company policies. 

Responsible for scheduling, expense control and merchandising effectiveness. 

Create and implement promotions and marketing initiatives. 

Lead and guide staff on customer experience initiatives and expectations.

Ensure proper merchandising guidelines are followed and productivity targets achieved. 

Follow through on goals and key performance indicators.

Follow safety program and maintain high standards of safety, asset protection and operational compliance.

Management & Performance

Provide leadership, direction and oversight to the department. 

Responsible for financials; including sales performance, margins and operational costs.

Make informed decisions that support business growth and long-term success. 

Drive weekly sales results and identify opportunities for improvement.

Follow performance management program. 

Consistently deliver feedback to team members.

Conduct onboarding steps and safety orientations for team members. 

Technical Aptitude: 

Strong computer and numeracy skills are important for success in this role, along with the ability to understand product details and retain key information. 

Intermediate or higher computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel, Outlook and Word.

Work Environment and Miscellaneous Work Requirements:

All work is indoors; however, the deli department is warmer than most indoor environments. 

The department is fast paced with many tasks happening simultaneously. 

The work includes working with ovens, stove tops, deep fryers, slicers and knives.

The manager assists the deli team in all areas of production, food prep, merchandising, housekeeping and customer service. 

Qualifications

Intermediate or higher computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, especially Excel, Outlook and Word.

Strong oral communication skills (English). Good written communication skills required. (English). Ability to understand and communicate well with others. 

Ability to lift 50 lbs on occasion, 15-30 lbs repeatedly.

Ability to work at counter height for lengthy durations, with good stamina to support daily production activities.  

Ability to stand for extensive periods of time and walk extensively while on shift. 

Ability to perform a variety of tasks that include dexterity; pushing and pulling, reaching, bending, squatting. 

3 years of retail, hospitality management or similar experience required.  Preference given to candidates with food preparation or food/kitchen production experience, plus management experience.
