POSITION: PROJECT MANAGER – LIGHT / HEAVY INDUSTRIAL CONSTRUCTION (STEEL / PEMB FOCUS)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Project Manager is responsible for delivering construction projects from pre-construction through closeout, with a focus on industrial steel and pre-engineered building systems.

This role manages budget, schedule, subcontractors, suppliers, and client communication while ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with Colony standards.

The following are the expected results:

  • Colony’s clients and vendors are satisfied and will desire to do repeat business with Colony.
  • Colony team members express confidence and satisfaction in working with the PM.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a Project Manager working for a General Contractor or Pre-Engineered Steel Builder on industrial or heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Direct experience managing pre-engineered steel building (PEMB) or structural steel scopes is required.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings (steel preferred).
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of quality control programs and the critical importance of consistently meeting quality standards.
  • Working knowledge of civil, concrete (tilt-up), mechanical, and electrical scopes is strongly preferred.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency with project management software and standard construction tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents in detail.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
  • Lead coordination of steel/PEMB packages including procurement and erection sequencing.
  • Run client meetings and provide regular project updates.
  • Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support subcontractor buyout and procurement processes.
  • Track and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Ensure alignment between estimate, scope, and field execution.
  • Lead project handover from estimating and ensure full understanding of scope and risks.
  • Maintain organized project documentation in accordance with Colony procedures.
  • Support site teams to ensure efficient and safe execution.
  • Protect Colony’s interests both financially and contractually.
  • Ensure all project activities are completed safely and in compliance with standards.
  • Ensure complete client satisfaction with the goal of repeat business.
  • Ability to travel for up to 10 days/month (sites across Canada and head office in Surrey, BC).
