Job description

Position Objective

This position will provide on-site technical support to field and shop operations as they pertain to planning, mobilizing, and executing power rent solutions in utility applications. They will assist utility sales with answers to application and technical questions as utility projects are developed. Incumbent will act as the project manager, coordinating  customer requests, vendor scheduling, and technician availability.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plans, manages, and coordinates all aspects of complex utility solutions within the Power Rent business.
  • Manages and monitors the projects time schedule to guarantee the project will be delivered and ready for startup on schedule.
  • Acts as the site supervisor and primary interface with utility site leader (customer) and/or other partners engaged in deploying utility support.
  • As required, can answer most technical questions and application questions with respect to Caterpillar power systems and other related products for consulting engineers, electrical contractors, salesman, and the service department.
  • Assists service staff and technicians with troubleshooting and resolution with product issues.
  • Prepares job safety plan and verifies all safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Performs customer service duties to establish positive, cooperative working relationships with service technicians, customers, and internal staff.
  • Assures working conditions offer the safest practices and cares for the safety of all parties involved in the projects.
  • Manages product improvements as they become available.
  • Elevates high priority issues and customers to Manager, Technical Services, and Caterpillar Service Reps.
  • Acts as the project coordinator for all load in and load out operations.
  • Conducts “Pre-Flight” walk throughs
  • Assists management team with utility equipment purchases and lifespan determination, Is an expert in utility equipment and operations.
  • Builds and plans training for utility technicians. Provides training to technicians in a growing role. Basic information to Mastery level.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Occasional/Other Responsibilities:

  • Acts as major contributor in accomplishing the department’s financial goals, sharing responsibility for all results such as profitability, expense management, customer satisfaction, rework, quality, turnover, and employee satisfaction.
  • Participates in meeting, seminars, and training sessions to obtain information on new products to better provide technical assistance.

Position Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical field (EE) or equivalent years of related experience
  • 5+ years of work-related experience in a technical role requiring deep expertise in system-level design, deployment, operation, and maintenance of generators, switchgear, synchronization controls, and other grid support or micro-grid systems.
  • 1-3 years of management or leadership experience
  • 1-3 years of client management and/or vendor relationship management experience
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E and related standards for working on or around energized and high voltage electrical systems
    • Ability to take ownership of processes and equipment thru excellent knowledge of the product and the market.
    • Ability to work with minimal direction utilizing strong problem-solving skills and project management skills.
    • Ability to adapt to changing environments and industry needs to uphold professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance and friendly, courteous treatment of peers, subordinates, and customers.
    • The ability to be certified as a Power Analyst with excellent repair judgment and an excellent knowledge of grid tie technology and systems.

Preferred

  • 5 years or more of management or leadership experience
  • 5 years of client management and/or vendor relationship management experience
  • PMP Certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30HR
  • Minimum 5 years’ of electric utility project management or leadership experience

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline driven environment.
