Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Mechanical Integrity Engineer (MIE) is to provide technical guidance and lead development/support as company Subject Matter Expert (SME) in areas of Mechanical Integrity (MI) and related engineering, including Recommended and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), such as ASME, API, ANSI, AWS, and AMPP to better ensure overall facility safety, compliance, and equipment reliability. This includes support, development, improvement, and interpretation of the corporate MI program and its initiatives, practices, policies, and procedures. The MIE will also serve as an SME in the fixed and rotating equipment design, construction, inspection, maintenance and repair practices, their application and management within Targa MI. The Mechanical Integrity Engineer will also participate and support internal/external MI related audits, risk surveys, PHAs. The MIE shall be responsible for providing SME support for areas of expertise such as MI related codes and regulations, equipment defects, and repairs. Performs program evaluations to support projects and operations. Proactively solves problems, leads continuous improvement, and communicates difficulties and remediations to peers and leadership. The MI Engineer is to embody the TARGA MI philosophy of being safe, compliant, and efficient.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Guide operations, Technical Services, and Process Engineering in consideration of changes that will Mechanical Integrity and reliability. Assist in developing and implementing inspection programs to maximize the on-stream time of major equipment.
  • Participate and support internal/external MI related audits, risk surveys, PHAs.
  • Provide SME support and guidance to Operations, Engineering and MI team members in associated MI program matters.
  • Assist with root cause failure analysis studies to determine failure modes and advise on repair methods.
  • Assist with degradation mechanism identification and analysis as part of routine inspection recommendations and developing RBI programs.
  • Maintain and communicate current code, regulatory requirements, and RAGEGEP pertaining MI.
  • Champion developing, improving, and implementing inspection programs to maximize the on-stream time of major equipment.
  • Lead/support development and continuous improvement of corporate MI policies, guidelines, procedures and training.
  • Be an advocate and influencer for MI cultural development.
  • Review, develop, and enhance detailed design standards, specifications, and drawings and for mechanical equipment.
  • Lead in the development & execution of Mechanical Integrity and Reliability programs.
  • Properly use and complete company job-related forms and paperwork.
  • Liaison to Operations, Technical Services, Engineering, and EHS groups in consideration of changes that will Mechanical Integrity and reliability
  • Support Engineering with engineering designs, drawings and specifications for materials, fabrication, and NDE content.
  • Participate in the development & execution of Mechanical Integrity and Reliability programs.
  • Communicate and deal with vendors and other parties in such a manner as to benefit the professional reputation of the company.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate inspection results.
  • Ability to support, develop and improve the mechanical integrity inspection program.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution on future projects
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • 7+ years of industry related experience.
  • Possess fundamental knowledge of midstream gas gathering and processing operations, including pig liquids handling, compression, glycol and desiccant dehydration, acid gas treating, hydrocarbon recovery, and condensate stabilization
  • Experience working with Integrity Data Management Systems (IDMS).
  • Extensive knowledge, understanding, and application of pipeline and plant and industry codes & standards, including OSHA 1910.119, ASME Sct VIII, ASME B31.3/8 and API 510/570
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license to include a safe driving record satisfactory to the company
  • Technically competent with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously following direction, policies, or procedures. Ability to use analytical and decision-making skills to recommend options and resolve problems in a variety of contexts.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately, either independently or as part of a team, under the pressure of completing deadlines with frequent interruptions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 15+ years of industry related experience.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering
  • API 510/API 570 Certification
  • Willing to work overtime.
  • Ability to read P&IDs efficiently. Ability to read and develop isometric drawings of both piping systems and pressure vessels.
  • Experience in API 580/581 RBI standards and program development.
  • Ability to perform audits on ASME Sect. IX and API 1104 welding procedures from vendors

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Travel up to 25%
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
