Job description

This is a unique leadership opportunity for a clinically focused, outcomes-driven professional to lead systemwide education and professional development initiatives across UPMC while continuing to actively contribute to strategic projects and program implementation. As a working manager, this role combines people leadership with hands-on responsibility for advancing key organizational priorities related to onboarding, competency management, nurse residency, preceptor development, and workforce readiness. The Clinical Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of Clinical Curriculum Practice Specialists, ensuring high-quality educational programs and competency processes that support safe, evidence-based patient care. The role partners closely with operational and nursing leaders across the system to identify practice gaps, implement education strategies, standardize onboarding and orientation programs, and measure program effectiveness through outcomes such as competency attainment, staff engagement, retention, and quality metrics. In addition to supervising and mentoring staff, the manager will lead and participate in strategic projects, driving the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative education and workforce development initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to influence practice and professional development at a system level while making a direct impact on the growth and success of both clinical staff and the education team.
The Manager will work onsite up to two days per week during a Monday through Friday daylight schedule. The role will sit onsite at one of our UPMC Facilities. Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate Clinical Curriculum Practice Specialist team, including performance management and development planning
  • Ensure appropriate workload distribution and coverage across assigned programs
  • Lead implementation and evaluation of orientation and continuing education programs aligned with organizational priorities, including residency programs, preceptor development, orientation and onboarding standardizations
  • Identify clinical practice gaps and develop evidence-based education strategies to improve patient outcomesโ€ข Partner with leadership to develop and implement competency validation processes
  • Monitor and measure effectiveness of programs through outcomes such as competency, retention, and quality metrics
  • Support compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements through education and training initiatives
  • Serve as a mentor to Clinical Curriculum Practice Specialists, clinical professional development staff and direct care staff
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure alignment of education initiatives with clinical and organizational priorities
  • Participate in teaching clinical-related content across disciplines

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field required; Doctorate preferred
  • Minimum four years of clinical experience with at least three years in a relevant specialty required
  • Experience in clinical education, professional development, or related field preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including team supervision and program management
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Experience with education technology and Microsoft applications
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34
  • Registered Nurse or other clinical licensed professional
