Job description

Position Summary The Opportunity: This position plays a vital role in Student Services by supporting the mission of Skagit Valley College through programmatic and academic support for students in Basic Education for Adults (BEdA), including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), High School Completion, GED, and Open Doors pathways. The position supports student engagement and retention by coordinating communications, collecting required documentation, assisting with registration, maintaining attendance and compliance records, coordinating instructional materials and program events, and connecting students with campus and community resources. In partnership with faculty, Student Services, and instructional staff, the position helps create a welcoming, student-centered environment that promotes student success.

The position also provides direct academic support by facilitating tutoring and study sessions, assisting students with college and online learning technologies, strengthening academic skills, and helping students overcome barriers to persistence and achievement. This is a full-time, 12-month classified position, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, onsite at the Mount Vernon Campus and reports to the Associate Dean of Student Support Programs. The Location: Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish People's, especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, Samish Indian Nation, Nooksack Indian Tribe, and Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe.

Located in a geographically diverse region between the dynamic metropolitan hubs of Seattle and Vancouver, BC, SVC is never far from world-class outdoor recreation, urban arts scenes, and local cultural events. Duties and Responsibilities Open Doors Academic Support Supervise Open Doors Program support sessions for students in high school subject areas, such as English Language Acquisition, Mathematics, Science, Arts, and GED Prep; Support students in activating and navigating platforms, such as Canvas, student emails, GED prep, etc.; Foster an environment where students can develop personalized study strategies and approaches, offering support and resources; Fill in learning techniques or knowledge gaps to improve students' academic performance. BEdA Programmatic Support Coordinate communication with prospective and current BEdA students to collect required documents (e.g., release forms, transcripts) and schedule placement or testing appointments in collaboration with Student Services; Support the planning and delivery of quarterly communications, assessments, advising appointments, and retention outreach for BEdA students; Assist with the coordination and implementation of New Student Registrations, Graduation Celebrations, Commencement, and other campus-wide events that promote student belonging and success; Partner with faculty, Student Services, and instructional staff to improve student experience and increase operational efficiency; Provide warm handoffs and referrals to college Student Services offices (e.g., Financial Aid, Disability Access Services, Counseling, TRIO) and community-based agencies as needed. Assist with class registration for returning BEdA students, ensuring timely enrollment and resolution of barriers; Coordinate the purchasing of instructional materials, supplies, and resources to support program operations; Assist with the completion, tracking, and documentation of all attendance for Open Doors students for compliance with OSPI and the contracted school districts

This includes students in any of the four pathways GED, High School Completion, College, and Career (by communicating with their instructors for attendance tracking); Create and maintain fillable attendance sheets for BEDA faculty use and reach out to college professors for student attendance; Other duties as assigned related to BEdA student success and engagement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge or understanding of: Express appropriate awareness of the history of underrepresented groups and promote an equitable work and learning environment; Knowledge of college admission, advising, registration, and financial aid policies and processes; Understanding of community resources for food, housing, funding, and assessment; Knowledge of educational programs, including Basic Skills, developmental education, and academic and professional/technical certificates and degrees; Education and career pathways; State and federal laws affecting Skagit Valley College. Skills and abilities to: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Interpret community college regulations and maintain compliance with the rules; Present information to individuals and large groups orally and in writing; Maintain positive relationships with students, partner agencies, faculty, staff, and employees in other units; Promote and model appropriate workplace behavior with culturally diverse populations; Promote an unbiased, open forum for the safe exchange of ideas and learning opportunities; Apply sound judgment to a variety of problems within the workplace; Work effectively in a diverse, dynamic, and fast-paced workplace.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma; Experience working with multicultural or low-income students; Experience using Microsoft platforms to track information. Preferred Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Services, Education, or related field; Experience assisting with projects and tracking mechanisms; Prior experience working in a community college environment, particularly Student Services; Experience with ctcLink and TargetX systems, or similar CRM platform experience; Bilingual - English & Spanish, English & Russian, or English & Ukrainian. Salary, Benefits, Conditions of Employment, Application Procedure, About SVC Salary and Benefits: Salary is based on Range 41, Step A, $3,738 per month with periodic increments to $4,866 per month.

Starting salary may be dependent on education, qualifications, and experience. Salary and benefits are subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements. This position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is dependent upon continued grant funding.
