The Program Director for the Floyd County Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for supervising and directing assigned staff and organizing and promoting recreation programs within the community.
DUTIES:
Manage daily operations of the 27,000-square-foot Southern Indiana Sports Center, including parks-operated leagues, tournaments, special events, and third-party facility rentals.
Serve as the director and coordinator for youth and adult sports leagues and tournaments, overseeing planning, scheduling, staffing, operations, and successful event execution.
Supervises and directs assigned personnel as needed, including interviewing candidates and making hiring recommendations, keeping supervisor and assigned staff informed of organization developments, and assisting Superintendent with corrective instruction and evaluating job performance.
Collaborates with Superintendent on operations, including, but not limited to, evaluation of programs, coordination of recreational activities within the community, developing and administering a comprehensive program of recreational opportunities for local citizens as outlined in Department’s 5-Year Master Plan, reviewing recreational activities and programs, maintaining accurate records of programs and participants, and preparing and submitting reports.
Prepares and submits proposals for programs to Superintendent.
Assists with recreational activities, camps, leagues, tournaments, concerts and special events.
Prepares various reports, submitting them to Superintendent, Parks Board, and others as required.
Recruits, trains, and recognizes part-time staff and volunteers and communicates department and program goals and objectives to them.
Promotes facilities and recreation programs and activities among general public and oversees public relations and media for athletic programs and special events. Assists with publicity and weekly signboard preparation and establishing and maintaining partnerships with organizations, businesses, and institutions for collaborative efforts on mutual projects and missions.
Processes purchases and receipts for recreation programs with Superintendent and Office Manager.
Maintains accurate accounting of all schedules and fees in online software and works in cooperation with Office Manager in meeting all recommendations of Indiana State Board of Accounts.
Performs related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field with at least three (3) years’ responsible experience in the field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must be 21 years or older.
Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid, AED, CPR, etc. within six (6) months of hire.
Ability to meet all hiring requirements including passage of a drug screen.
Thorough knowledge of the full range of theories and principles accepted in the field of recreation management with the ability to apply such knowledge to meet the recreational needs of the community as defined in the department’s 5-Year Master Plan.
Thorough knowledge of Department functions and ability to direct recreational activities and operations consistent with program goals.
Practical knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies and procedures regarding park operations and programs with ability to develop long-term plans and oversee operations.
Practical knowledge of standard office practices and procedures and basic computer skills, including word processing/spreadsheet/email/presentation/internet, with ability to learn Department-specific software/applications and to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and ability to prepare documents, correspondence, and detailed written reports.
Ability to supervise and direct assigned personnel as needed, including interviewing candidates and making hiring recommendations, keeping supervisor and assigned staff informed of organization developments, and assisting Superintendent with corrective instruction and evaluating job performance.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other county departments, government agencies and officials, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment and work on several tasks at the same time, occasionally under time pressure.
Ability to operate standard department equipment, including computer, telephone, and other equipment, including vehicle, vending machine, volleyball nets, basketball rims, and scoreboards.
