Job Description
The Community Development and Events Specialist Intern/Volunteer will cultivate partnerships and community relations that will promote growth, awareness, and support of Jolkona's mission to empower a global community of leaders. The person in this role must be able to develop a robust schedule of events (e.g., speaker series, group visits, networking events) both during and after business hours, so that Jolkona can build excitement around the social entrepreneurs we support. In partnership with the Executive Director, Program Manager and Marketing volunteers, this role will help build and sustain a viable community presence and plan events to engage a growing number of people who are passionate about social innovation.

Jolkona is looking for smart, savvy, and passionate individuals who are looking to build experience and get involved in projects involving both members of the Jolkona team as well as other Seattle organizations.
Essential Functions:
  • Contribute to the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for Jolkona that will continue build awareness of our mission.
  • Build relationships with local community groups, small businesses or large corporations.
  • Create excitement for Jolkona's mission through an online presence by spearheading and contributing to social media opportunities across various platforms and social communities.
  • Partner with the Executive Director, Program Manager and Marketing volunteers to develop assets that support local community engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to network and make strong connections in the community.
  • Good judgment and the ability to escalate important questions to Jolkona leadership team
  • Organize, prioritize, plan, execute, and fulfill all community engagement events.
  • Coordinate public relations and promotion for events, programs and activities.
  • Connect activity and event results to key metrics to determine overall effectiveness of community outreach initiatives.
  • Engage, educate, excite and empower potential and existing supporters, donors and volunteers alike with the same level of passion and commitment.
  • Be the point person for questions regarding Jolkona's upcoming events and provide good customer service to potential guests.
  • Maintain up-to-date event documents including site-schedule forms and action plans.
  • Assisting in communications and event management including timelines, calendars, reports.
  • Propose new ideas to improve event planning and implementation process.
  • Assist with logistical details including venue contracts, food and beverages, AV equipment and needs, swag, in-kind donations (if needed), ticketing and other tasks as needed.
  • Enjoy working in both the non-profit sector and the corporate sector.

Our office space is laid back and fun, though it's BYOC (bring your own computer).
