Job description

Burn Program Manager

Under the direct supervision of the Burn Services Director, the Burn Program Manager will work in collaboration with Burn Leadership to improve the quality of burn care encompassing all departments and disciplines of the hospital that participate in care of the burn patient population.  This position provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement data collection, analysis, trending, and benchmarking of data and outcomes based upon the American Burn Association's recommendations for quality as it relates to obtaining and maintaining Burn Center Verification. The Burn Program Manager will assist in the coordination and data tracking of the burn patient's care throughout the hospital and support the stated mission, vision, and values of MBMC and the philosophy of the burn service line.

Position Requirements:

 

Licensure/Certification/Registration: 

  • Current MS RN licensure
  • ACLS and ABLS certification desired 

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies all patient cases that meet criteria for inclusion in the burn registry database
  • Reviews medical records in detail to obtain required elements need for burn registry reporting
  • Retrieves and analyzes data and disseminates burn information and reports as requested as a part of the Performance Improvement Program
  • Actively participates in the Burn Performance Improvement program including data analysis, medical record extrapolation, data entry, and performance improvement projects
  • Acts in a multidisciplinary fashion and consults with physicians or other clinical staff as needed for the assistance with acquiring burn case reporting information
  • Reports and/or transmits hospital quality data in a timely and complete manner as required by Mississippi Department of Health and Human Services (State Registry) and the American Burn Association of American College of Surgeons (National Burn Data Bank)
  • Reports validity of data abstraction and entry to the supervision of the Burn Services Director
  • Works collaboratively with Burn Services Director, Burn Medical Director, burn center staff, hospital staff members, and physicians to maintain Burn verification status
  • Actively participates in education activities to include Burn Quality related education programs
  • Coordinates CME lectures and ABLS courses to support burn education throughout center
  • Collaborates with and provides support to appropriate outside facilities to provide follow-up on process improvement opportunities

Education:  BSN or Bachelor's Degree required. Must show evidence of educational preparation, with a minimum of 16 hours of burn related continuing education per year.                                            

Experience:  At least three years of nursing experience in surgical care, critical care and/or emergency department. Disease process education experience required. Experience in Quality Assurance desired.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrates strong organizational skills. Displays appropriate judgement and problem solving skills. Has effective time management skills. Communicates positively and at a highly professional level with all internal and external customers. Computer literate, proficiency in review and abstraction of clinical patient information. Strong interpersonal skills.

Degree of Supervision Required:  Minimal supervision: Individual proceeds on own initiative in compliance with policies, procedures, and practices.

Orientation Period:  Based on experience and continuous assessment of progress by Director or designee.
