Electrical Hazards Training Specialist / Program Coordinator Summary:
The Electrical Hazards Training Specialist / Program Coordinator is responsible for the administration, scheduling, maintenance, coordination of transportation and logistics, training delivery, and continuous improvement of Townsend's Electrical Hazards Training (EHT) Trailer Program. This position ensures employees receive consistent, engaging, and technically accurate electrical hazards training through classroom instruction and live demonstrations while maintaining the highest standards of operational safety, equipment readiness, and regulatory compliance.
The Electrical Hazards Training Specialist/ Program Coordinator serves as the company's subject matter expert for the EHT Trailer Program and works closely with Operations, Health amp; Safety, Fleet, Facilities, and regional
leadership to maximize the effectiveness and availability of this critical training resource.
Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Serving as the Company's subject matter expert for the Electrical Hazards Training Trailer Program.
  • Delivering engaging, technically accurate, and effective electrical hazards training.
  • Maintaining the Electrical Hazards Training Trailer in a constant state of operational readiness.
  • Managing scheduling, logistics, transportation, inspections, maintenance, and inventory for the trailer.
  • Qualifying, evaluating, and supporting Electrical Hazards Training Demonstrators.
  • Maintaining all required training, equipment, and inspection records.
  • Ensuring compliance with Company policies and applicable OSHA, ANSI, and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously improving the Electrical Hazards Training Program to meet evolving operational needs and industry best practices.
Training Delivery
  • Deliver Electrical Hazards, and other Training to employees throughout the company.
  • Conduct engaging classroom instruction and live electrical hazard demonstrations.
  • Ensure all demonstrations are performed in accordance with approved operating procedures and company safety requirements.
  • Create an interactive learning environment that reinforces hazard recognition and safe work practices.
  • Adapt presentations to meet operational needs while maintaining approved technical content.
  • Evaluate participant understanding and provide coaching to improve knowledge retention and application.
Program Administration
  • Manage the annual Electrical Hazards Training Trailer schedule.
  • Coordinate trailer requests with operating divisions and business units.
  • Schedule transportation and logistics between training locations.
  • Maintain the master training calendar.
  • Track attendance and maintain all required training documentation.
  • Maintain records for qualified demonstrators and trainer certifications.
  • Coordinate Train-the-Trainer programs and instructor evaluations.
  • Maintain training records within the Company's EHS System.
Trailer Operations
  • Perform pre-use inspections before every demonstration.
  • Complete post-training inspections and document deficiencies.
  • Maintain trailer inventory, demonstration equipment, and training materials.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, calibration, and annual inspections.
  • Ensure generators, electrical systems, PPE, audiovisual equipment, and demonstration props remain in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the trailer.
  • Coordinate with Fleet and other appropriate personnel regarding transportation, storage, scheduling, and overall readiness of the Electrical Hazards Training Trailer.
Equipment and PPE Management
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace electrical protective equipment.
  • Coordinate electrical testing and certification of insulating rubber goods.
  • Maintain inspection, testing, and replacement records.
  • Ensure all demonstration equipment remains compliant with company requirements.
  • Manage inventory of gloves, sleeves, overshoes, hot sticks, demonstration materials, and consumable supplies.
Safety Leadership
  • Ensure every demonstration is conducted safely and professionally.
  • Conduct pre-demonstration job briefings.
  • Verify all protective systems are functioning before energizing equipment.
  • Suspend demonstrations whenever unsafe conditions exist.
  • Investigate equipment deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI Z133, industry best practices, and company standards related to electrical hazards.
Program Development and Continuous Improvement
  • Review participant feedback and implement program improvements.
  • Update lesson plans, presentations, and instructional materials as standards or company procedures evolve.
  • Develop new demonstrations and learning activities that improve employee understanding of electrical hazards.
  • Support corporate safety initiatives through educational outreach.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades, technology improvements, and enhancements to the Electrical Hazards Training Program.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Safety, Utility Operations, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in utility vegetation management, electric utility operations, line clearance arboriculture, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering classroom and field-based training.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management abilities.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to meet Company driver qualification requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 75% throughout the United States, including frequent overnight travel, to deliver training at company field and operating locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ISA Certified Arborist
  • Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP)
  • Certified Utility Safety Specialist (CUSP)
  • Utility Line Clearance or electrical utility experience
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer
  • Adult learning or instructional design experience
  • Experience operating high-voltage training equipment
  • Experience managing mobile training programs
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to set up and dismantle training equipment.
  • Ability to work inside the training trailer and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment during demonstrations.
  • Frequent overnight travel throughout the Company's operating areas.
Working Conditions
This is a corporate position that supports operations throughout the Company's service territories and is not limited to the Muncie, Indiana corporate office. The position requires approximately 75% travel, with training primarily conducted at field locations, regional operating facilities, training centers, and other company locations.
