Description Distinguishing Features of the Position WIC Program Coordinator, under limited supervision, oversees the coordination and implementation of the WIC programs within the Health and Human Service Agency. Work involves providing strategic guidance including developing and implementing strategies, goals and objectives in ways that promote agency culture, support program improvement and increase organizational effectiveness; supervision and development of staff; overseeing all aspects of operations, customer service and logistics, working to maximize efficiency; working collaboratively to ensure a culture of change management for improved outcomes as a shared expectation across Agency staff; developing, implementing and sustaining policy and process based infrastructure, combined with workflow improvements to maximize human and fiscal resources; utilizing functional knowledge, process and project management skills, in conjunction with innovative practices to implement data driven analytical decisions; and working directly with team members throughout the Agency to ensure high-quality customer service. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Tasks Performs technical, administrative, and professional work while planning, and organizing operations, customer service and logistics.
Monitors and manages budget expenditures to ensure activities align with established budget. Assures that local, state, and federal policies, rules, and regulations are complied with and properly implemented. Coordinates all aspects of program related grants, including preparing and submitting grant applications, managing and monitoring all programs and activities, completing required reporting, and fulfillment of any regulatory activities.
Achieves all federal, state and local regulatory compliance for any Program or service-related functions. Ensures compliance within required timeline for all program accountabilities Corrective Action Plans and Agreement Addenda, and conducts program and/or Division level follow up training for prevention purposes. Ensures all manner of Program and/or Division level required licensures and training, including content creation, review, and implementation to meet compliance standards and sustain best practices.
Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities to ensure maximum Program effectiveness. Responsible for the management and oversight of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Breastfeeding Support, and Senior Nutrition. Ensures application to, and management of, multiple grants and agreement addenda through entities including: NC Department of Health and Human Services (for WIC related Agreement Addenda), Division of Aging / Area Agency on Aging (for Senior Nutrition services funded with Home and Community Care Block Grant or other federal funds), and Breastfeeding Support services.
Plans program goals and objectives, participates in incorporating nutrition services into all other Human Service Agency program areas (including Public Health and Social Services) and evaluates effectiveness of program plans. Participates in community outreach programs to increase public awareness. Responsible for implementing deliverables and requirements of WIC Agreement Addenda and for meeting the requirements of the NC WIC Program Manual.
Coordinates with the Health Director on meeting Public Health goals and achieving optimal health outcomes. Participates in meeting the Public Health Accreditation requirements. Provides direct patient services including comprehensive, complex nutrition services to clients with high risk medical or nutritional problems.
Collaborates with local clinical service teams to ensure provision of Medical Nutritional Therapy (MNT) for pregnant women and children/adolescents. Nutritional assessments must include independently analyzing a client's medical condition, researching nutrition requirements of the respective medical problem, and recommending a treatment plan in concert with an interdisciplinary team approach. Oversees and participates in planning, organizing and delivering WIC vendor training.
Coordinates with Public Health leadership to assure appropriate care and referrals to community health programs or other state and local agencies that support children with developmental disabilities and chronic illnesses. Collaborates with health professionals in the community, primarily lactation professionals, dieticians and diabetes educators to enhance the service delivery to the target population. Ensures operation of the County's congregate, home delivered, frozen meal and supplemental meal Senior Nutrition programs.
Responsibilities in this area include oversight of the Nutrition Coordinator, ensuring facilitation of yearly menu planning sessions to assure menus meet standards of NC Division of Aging, and, ensuring accuracy and completeness of program related client statistics submitted to the NC Division of Aging. Must be considered a Competent Professional Authority (CPA), A CPA may be a nutritionist, registered dietitian, dietetic technician registered (DTR), registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician.
Successful pre-employment drug screen. Successful criminal Background check. Valid state driver's license.
Physical Demands The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines. Special Requirements None.
