Catheterization Laboratory Technologist I – Cardiology Cath Lab

Alamogordo, NM

Job Summary

The Catheterization Laboratory Technologist I plays a key role in supporting cardiac catheterization procedures by preparing procedure rooms, operating specialized imaging and monitoring equipment, and ensuring accurate patient documentation. This position helps maintain patient safety, sterile technique, and efficient workflow while collaborating closely with physicians and the cardiovascular care team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure cath lab equipment is operational and complete required quality control documentation.
  • Perform daily room setup, equipment checks, and supply stocking.
  • Review patient schedules and prepare rooms, supplies, and equipment for assigned procedures.
  • Enter and maintain accurate patient information within imaging and cath lab systems.
  • Assist with procedure documentation, hemodynamic monitoring, and ECG recognition.
  • Position and secure patients safely for procedures.
  • Operate and maintain cath lab technologies, including:
  • Fluoroscopy/X-ray imaging
  • Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)
  • Intracardiac echo (ICE)
  • Contrast injectors
  • Hemynamic monitoring systems
  • Intra-aortic balloon pumps
  • Rotational atherectomy and thrombectomy devices
  • Ventricular assist devices
  • Support physicians during procedures while maintaining sterile technique and patient safety.
  • Identify and address breaks in aseptic technique immediately.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient privacy, and safety standards.
  • Perform fluoroscopic imaging and digital image acquisition as directed.
  • Serve as a radiation safety representative during imaging procedures.
  • Assist with patient transport as needed.
  • Participate in teamwork, knowledge sharing, and departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with attendance, productivity, and professional dress standards.


Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program, associate degree in a healthcare-related field, or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience

  • Previous experience in an acute care or hospital setting preferred
  • Entry-level candidates encouraged to apply

Certifications & Licensure

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required within 6 months for pediatric facilities
  • One or more cardiovascular or radiologic specialty certifications preferred, such as:
  • RCIS
  • RCES
  • RCS
  • ARRT certifications
  • RDMS or RDCS credentials
  • RVT certification
  • State licensure required based on applicable modality and location regulations
