Registered Nurse (RN)

A Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed healthcare professional responsible for delivering patient-centered care, coordinating treatments, monitoring patients' conditions, and supporting both patients and their families across a variety of healthcare environments.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Patient assessment & documentation: Conduct patient assessments, take medical histories, monitor vital signs, and document patient conditions accurately in health records.
  • Medication & treatment administration: Administer medications, IVs, and treatments as ordered by physicians. Perform wound care and other clinical procedures.
  • Care planning & monitoring: Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and revise care plans; monitor patient reactions and communicate any changes.
  • Equipment use & diagnostics: Operate diagnostic medical equipment and assist with or perform lab tests.
  • Communication & education: Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, and aftercare; provide emotional support.
  • Teamwork and supervision: Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and care staff; possibly oversee LPNs, nursing assistants, or students.
Qualifications
  • Licensure & education: Active Vermont RN license; graduate of an accredited nursing program—Associate Degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred), or diploma-based.
  • Certifications: Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR. Depending on setting, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be needed.
