Job description

Position Information
Position Title 2nd Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Job Description
The successful candidate will assist the head coach in coordinating and planning all aspects of the men's basketball program and work cooperatively with all personnel in maintaining a quality program within the policy framework of Mississippi Valley State University, NCAA, and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
 Essential job functions will include: 
  • Recruiting & Scouting: Evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes, manage recruiting databases, and coordinate on-campus visits. Analyze game film and scout opposing teams to develop effective game strategies. 
  • Player Development & Coaching: Assist in planning and running team practices, design individual player workouts, and provide in-game tactical advice and instruction. 
  • Academic Monitoring: Track the academic progress and class attendance of student-athletes to ensure they meet NCAA, NAIA, or NJCAA eligibility requirements and maintain progress toward graduation. 
  • Administration & Operations: Manage travel logistics, equipment, and summer camps. Operate within the athletic department's allocated budget. 
  • Compliance: Strictly adhere to all league and institutional rules and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned by the head coach.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with at least two years of coaching experience or a combination thereof; possess knowledge in the sport; ability to maintain a quality NCAA Division I Program and demonstrate solid communications and customer service skills; must have knowledge of recruiting of student-athletes to include rules and regulations governed by NCAA; must be flexible and possess the ability to work well with all levels of MVSU faculty/staff; proven ability to plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities.
