About Teva and Adamah
Teva, powered by Adamah, aims to inspire environmental awarenessand activism and engage youth in Jewish culture and tradition. Since 1994, Teva has been developing the field of Jewish Enviromental Education. Our four-day Shomrei Adamah program provides transformational experiences in nature for Jewish day school students. Teva educators are sought as an asset in staffing work in the Jewish communal field, and are often inspired to careers in environmental, outdoor, farming, and Jewish communal leadership roles. Teva has served over 450 day-schools, congregations, camps, JCCs, youth groups, and other institutions spanning all Jewish denominations including secular and interfaith groups. Â
Description:Â Â
The Program Assistant and Medic is the leader of a variety of core systems at Teva for ensuring the health and safety of all participants, including monitoring allergies, responding to medical emergencies, supporting students with everyday illness and injury, maintaining medical records, and managing first aid inventory. Â
As a member of the Teva Administrative team, the Program Assistant and Medic will also work closely with the Director and Assistant Director to create a thriving ‘base-camp,’ supporting Teva’s mission with materials inventory and organization, space set-up and take-down, and other programmatic logistics. Â
The Program Assistant reports to the Teva Director and is a core member of the Teva leadership team. This is a seasonal position based at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls Village, CT that runs from August 20th - November 20th, 2025. The Program Assistant must work onsite between August 20-September 19 and between October 18-November 21, with flexibility for time-off and travel during the holiday season of September 20-October 17.
Key Responsibilities:Â
Be on site and available for response during all hours that students are on site.Â
Carry the emergency phone at all hours during the Teva program, including keeping the phone on at night.  Â
Be responsive via walkie-talkie and phone during daytime program hours with Teva Staff and School Chaperones. Â Â Â
Oversee all first aid supplies, including inventory of all medical supplies and replenishment as necessary.Â
Train educators in basic use of first aid kits and medical reporting.Â
Support students with everyday injury, illness and tick removal.Â
Evaluate urgent and emergency medical situations. Â
Monitor students with relevant food allergies in collaboration with Teva and kitchen staff.Â
Keep detailed medical records and complete high-quality incident reports as needed.Â
Manage systems to ensure the success of program materials set-up and take down, including leading on program materials inventory and organization.Â
Act as evening on-call hospitality liaison for schools, coordinating with Assistant Director and Guest Services staff to provide high quality customer service.Â
Attend weekly leadership meetings as a core member of the Teva administrative team.Â
Partner with Assistant Director to ensure all safety plans and emergency procedures are up-to-date, and support the Teva Director in maintaining best practice and compliance with legal requirements.Â
Other tasks/duties as assigned, especially as related to Teva ‘basecamp’ needsÂ
Qualifications:Â Â
Must be certified as an EMT or RN or be certified as a WFR with significant field experience. Â
Must be able to hike up to 1.5 miles on uneven and/or steep terrain.Â
Experience in food allergy safety, monitoring and medical response.Â
Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and schools, with ability to maintain a professional demeanor. Â
Strong communication and teamwork skills: must be able to work as part of a close-knit, interdependent team. Â
Excellent executive functioning, organizational, and project management skills. Â
Ability to work independently and find solutions. Â
Ability to stays cool in a crisis and adapt to changing situationsÂ
Find joy working in an immersive, highly-collaborative, outdoor education settingÂ
Skill in photography or graphic design is a plus! Â
Compensation and Benefits:
- Compensation is $7,000 in total for the season, to be paid in three increments.
The Program Assistant and Medic is provided housing in shared accommodations at Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center between August 20-November 21, 2025.Â
Board during program weeks and holiday retreats.
