TITLE OF VACANCY: Program Assistant for Blind/Low Vision Student Support K-12 Programming (260 days)

LOCATION: WVSDB Campus
:The program assistant for student support for residential participants in K-12 programming provides general supervision and guidance to students enrolled in the program during afternoon and evening hours in the academic and residential setting on a regularly scheduled basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: - Lead & Facilitate ECC Skills Building Focused Twice Weekly
- Collaborate with RCS staff and individual residents to attain REP goals
- Develop Visual Schedules & other independent living skills aids that support skill development
- Communicate once a shift in person with the respective daily living skills specialist on resident skill progress & outcomes or daily living skills activities
- Support the residents through the assistance of the RCS staff in attaining REP goals & changing goals when needed or attained
- Provide the daily living skills specialists with information & data to communicate with the families about residents' levels of independence
- Write daily reports on residents and what skills completed in activities
- Along with the RCS staff enter information into the online documentation system daily
- Assist the daily skills specialist in the administration of the DLS assessments
- Develop individual ECC activities that meet goals established by the ECC Curricula
- Professionally collaborate & lead activities with partners that promote independence
- Lead & Facilitate activities based on individual resident's need that teach how to maintain positive mental health & overall wellness
- Lead club platforms, summer activities and weekend programming that promote & foster out of the classroom skill development in the real world
- When potential families are on campus provide sample daily living skills activities
- May be required to transport participants in a state vehicle, as assigned
- Adheres to the Employee Code of Conduct as outlined in WVSDB personnel policies
- Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the Superintendent and/or immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Associate's degree in special education, residential care, or a related education field. Residential Care, or a related education field.
- Must have or acquire Braille II when working with the Blind or Low vision.
- Minimum of ten years of experience working in residential care with children grades 3-12.
- Knowledge or at least 2 years of experience in teaching independent living skills.
- Proficient in using technology programs to complete paperwork, teach daily living skills, & data documentation.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code ยง18-5-15c and/or ยง18A-3-10, as appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:- Knowledge of and skill in the use of databases, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications for effective communication and reporting.
- Has or will acquire knowledge of and skill in the use of technology and equipment to supplement instruction for students with hearing loss.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to preserve confidential information.
- Effectively writes professional correspondence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP:WVSDB staff are employed upon the recommendation of the school's superintendent to the West Virginia Board of Education and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Designated employees paid under WVDE guidelines are "at-will" and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation. Specialists are paid under the WVDE compensation schedule and are deemed "at will" employees.
The employment relationship between the WVSDB/WVBE and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the WVSDB/WVDE include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: Based on WVDE Salary Schedule Assistant level, 260-day work calendar.
