Job description

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Student Program Assistant Position will support the Program Manager in coordinating AfroRoots productions and assist with a wide range of programming and promotional activities across the Africana Studies Center. This position is ideal for a student interested in event production, arts administration, or cultural programming.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning and execution of AfroRoots shows (approximately two per month)

  • Provide logistical support during performances, including set-up and artist coordination

  • Help create and distribute promotional materials (flyers, graphics, social media content)

  • Support tabling, outreach, and engagement efforts for center programs and events.

  • Attend select events and assist with set-up.

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager on event planning

  • Maintain communication with students, AfroRoots artists, and students as needed

Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Currently enrolled student

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Interest in arts, culture, and/or African and African diasporic studies

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings

  • Self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively

  • Familiarity with Canva, Google Workspace, TikTok, and CapCut

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
  • Interest in event planning or production

  • Comfort with public engagement (e.g., tabling, flyering, outreach)
