Description
We are looking for someone for our Fall classes, with availability Monday, Wednesday, Friday between 4:00 and 7:30pm, beginning in September.
The Inclusion Program Assistant serves as an employee of the Westfield Area Y adaptive programming staff and works with our Inclusion Program Coordinator to support participants who have special needs. Under the guidance of the Inclusion Coordinator, the Inclusion Program Assistant follows a plan tailored to address specific needs of participants. The goal of the program is to provide participants the opportunity to participate in Y programs to their fullest ability and potential.
The Inclusion Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with the Inclusion Coordinator in specially designed programs to provide instruction and support to participants throughout activities. The Inclusion Program Assistant will help to provide modifications and adaptations for adults to successfully participate in activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, cooking, group fitness, and games.
Pay Range:
$17.00 - $21.00 per hour, depending on experience and education

Primary Responsibilities
  • Follow plans outlining accommodations and modifications to traditional games and activities in order to make them accessible to all participants.
  • Encourage participation and foster appropriate social interactions as needed.
  • Communicate with parents/ guardians, other counselors, and supervisors about the observed needs/behaviors of the participant(s).
  • Make suggestions to supervisors if there is a need to adjust, and/or add to a participant's support.
  • Identify any needs, questions, or concerns and communicate these with the Inclusion Coordinator.
  • Adapt to changes well, such as: program, participant's ability level, space availability, and modifications to class plan, as needed.
  • Take control of situations through quick and appropriate responses, if issues arise.
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for all related programs and environments (ex: keep closets clean, store equipment properly, make sure the sports class area is organized properly and free of clutter).
  • Maintain positive relationships with members, participants and staff through good communication and interaction.
