Job Summary

Primary schedule: M-F, shifts range from 7 AM-5 PM EST
The Outpatient Pharmacy Technician provides comprehensive pharmacy support services under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include prescription processing, medication preparation and distribution, insurance claim resolution, inventory management, operation and monitoring of automated dispensing systems, maintenance of pharmacy records, and quality assurance activities. The role requires excellent customer service, adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards, and team collaboration to ensure safe, accurate, and timely patient care. This is a unique ambulatory experience that blends clinical support and direct patient interaction within a hospital system.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) - required


Experience

  • Hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program 2-3 years preferred

  • 1-2 years retail pharmacy experience strongly preferred


Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follow established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine support tasks that are integral to the operation of the pharmacy department

  • Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices

  • Responsible for supporting the operations of the pharmacy and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications and healthcare products

  • Utilizes area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems

  • Demonstrates professionalism and effectively communicates with patients and caregivers to gather information and or triage inquiries

  • Handle and prepare all controlled substances in accordance with state and federal regulations

  • Responsible for assisting with the training of junior pharmacy technician and trainee team members

  • Assist with the organization of the pharmacy's inventory and operational flow

  • Assist with preparing reports, conduct safety and quality assurance audits and participate in inventory management and control
