Explorer Club and Little Explorers Program - Hiring Positions for Program Leads and Aides

Term: 9-Month Employee/ summer program hours upon availability
Accountable to: Site Supervisor
Hourly Wage: $14.00- $18.50 


Primary Objective:

The Explorer Club and Little Explorers Program Aide is responsible for supporting and assisting in the supervision of children in after-school programs. As a positive role model, both positions implement activity plans, manage classroom behavior, and provide support in physical activities, cultural enrichment, intellectual development, social skills, and health and wellness. These positions require a collaborative approach to supporting children's growth while ensuring a safe and engaging environment in alignment with the program's goals.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Activity Facilitation: Support and guide children in group activities, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring they are engaging, fun, and educational.
  • Safety and Supervision: Maintain the safety and well-being of children by adhering to supervision standards and ensuring appropriate child-to-staff ratios.
  • Schedule and Activities: Help execute the daily schedule and promote physical, intellectual, and social activities.
  • Health and Safety: Administer basic first aid when needed.
  • Mandated Reporting: the Program Aide is a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse or neglect, following county and state guidelines and training.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with staff, children, families, and other LILA Professionals to ensure a positive and productive experience for everyone.
  • Classroom Support:  Lead Staff are responsible for planning activities, leading the classroom, and delegating responsibilities to team members. They provide guidance during groups, activities, transitions, and behavior support while remaining actively engaged with children throughout the day. Lead Staff are expected to foster a positive, organized, and supportive learning environment that reflects the goals of the program.

Aide Staff may assume a leadership role when needed; however, their primary responsibility is to take initiative in supporting Lead Staff and assisting children wherever help is needed. Aides should collaborate effectively with all team members, actively engage with children, support activities and transitions, and help create a well-rounded, safe, and nurturing environment.

  • Professionalism: Represent the program professionally at all times.
  • Attendance: Maintain exemplary attendance, including on snow days and other non-school days as required.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties asked of by Site Supervisor as needed for the care and safety of children. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Lead staff must have at least six months of experience working in a childcare setting or in another childcare-related capacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children.
  • Additional Pay for fluency in Spanish or Chinese

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the following physical capabilities:

  • Communication: Vocal communication and hearing for interaction with children and staff.
  • Movement: Frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, balancing, reaching, and climbing.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 40 pounds or more.
  • Vision: Requires the ability to see close, distant, and adjust focus as needed.
  • Work Environment: Exposure to moderate noise levels and occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Work may involve both indoor and outdoor activities.
