Job description

Inside Account Manager

TACO Metals | Sparta, TN

Department: Customer Service

Reports to: Customer Service Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Location: TACO Metals, Sparta, Tennessee

Own the Relationship. Drive the Growth.

TACO Metals is seeking a commercially minded Inside Account Manager to own, retain, and grow an assigned portfolio of customer accounts.

This is more than a traditional customer service role. As the primary business contact and dedicated account owner, you will be responsible for customer satisfaction, profitable sales growth, account retention, product penetration, margin protection, and execution of account strategies.

You will analyze account performance, conduct customer business reviews, identify new sales opportunities, recommend pricing and retention strategies, and coordinate internal resources to deliver strong customer results.

Although the position supports quotations, order activity, shipment follow-up, and service resolutions, its primary focus is strategic account ownership, profitable growth, retention, and long‑term customer value.

Why Join TACO Metals?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Take ownership of a meaningful customer portfolio
  • Build long‑term customer relationships rather than simply process transactions
  • Influence account strategy, pricing recommendations, retention plans, and growth initiatives
  • Identify cross‑selling, upselling, and new‑product opportunities
  • Work directly with customers and cross‑functional business partners
  • Gain exposure to customer visits, outside sales activities, and trade shows
  • Build experience that can support continued growth in account management, sales, and commercial leadership
Key Responsibilities Account Management — Approximately 30%
  • Own an assigned portfolio of customer accounts and serve as the primary business contact.
  • Build trusted, long‑term customer relationships through proactive communication and regular outreach.
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and execute account strategies, growth plans, retention plans, and approved action plans.
  • Conduct periodic customer business reviews to identify opportunities, address account needs, and strengthen partnerships.
  • Analyze revenue, gross margin, buying trends, product penetration, profitability, retention risk, and long‑term customer value.
  • Recommend account priorities, customer programs, growth opportunities, product‑penetration initiatives, and retention plans.
  • Maintain accurate Salesforce records of customer interactions, strategies, opportunities, business‑review outcomes, follow‑up activities, and pipeline activity.
  • Use CRM reporting to support account planning and identify customer trends, retention risks, and growth opportunities.
Pricing, Programs, and Account Growth — Approximately 50%
  • Drive profitable sales growth and achieve assigned revenue, gross margin, retention, profitability, and growth objectives.
  • Identify and pursue cross‑selling, upselling, new‑product, and product‑line penetration opportunities.
  • Re‑engage inactive and dormant customer accounts.
  • Generate, review, and follow up on quotations to improve quote‑to‑order conversion.
  • Support customer discussions regarding pricing, terms, programs, and service needs.
  • Evaluate account performance, profitability, retention risk, and growth potential.
  • Recommend pricing strategies, customer programs, account priorities, retention plans, and growth opportunities based on business impact and long‑term account value.
  • Conduct customer business reviews and follow through on approved account action plans.
  • Exercise discretion, sound business judgment, and accountable decision‑making within defined authority limits.
  • Escalate exceptions, non‑standard requests, and matters outside approved authority with supporting analysis and recommendations.
  • Partner with Sales, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Engineering, and Customer Service to support account growth, service, and profitability.
Customer Accommodations and Service Resolutions — Approximately 20%
  • Coordinate customer accommodations, credits, returns, concerns, and service resolutions in accordance with company policies and management direction.
  • Oversee customer order activity and coordinate with internal teams to support customer commitments and account strategies.
  • Prepare quotations and pricing requests aligned with customer needs, account strategy, and margin expectations.
  • Provide timely customer updates regarding orders, deliveries, product availability, service matters, and other account needs.
  • Coordinate across departments to resolve customer and account‑related issues.
  • Ensure customer service activities support satisfaction, retention, account growth, and profitability.

Final approval authority for customer accommodations, credits, returns, and other exceptions remains with management.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide customer and market feedback regarding products, pricing, competitors, and industry trends.
  • Support new‑product launches and marketing initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to the customer experience, quote conversion, communication, response times, account performance, retention, and internal efficiency.
  • Collaborate across departments, proactively assist internal partners, control expenses, and eliminate waste.
  • Participate in training and professional‑development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
How Success Will Be Measured

Performance will be measured through customer‑service, account‑management, and business‑growth results, including:

  • Revenue growth, gross margin performance, and account profitability
  • Customer retention, satisfaction, and response time
  • Product‑line penetration
  • Reactivation of inactive and dormant accounts
  • Quote‑to‑order conversion
  • Strategic account opportunities created
  • Completion and execution of customer business reviews, growth plans, and action plans
  • Salesforce data quality, pipeline activity, and follow‑through
  • Achievement of quarterly and annual sales objectives
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least five years of customer service, sales, or account‑management experience in manufacturing or distribution
  • Experience managing accounts with responsibility for revenue, retention, profitability, or growth
  • Strong business acumen and supply‑chain knowledge
  • Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, organizational, and follow‑up skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work independently within defined authority
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field
  • Marine, boating, manufacturing, or distribution experience
  • Experience managing customer accounts exceeding $1 million in annual revenue
  • Experience with account‑growth plans, customer business reviews, pricing strategy, profitability analysis, product penetration, or overseas supply chains
  • Salesforce.com or SYSPRO experience
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills
Work Location and Travel

This is a primarily onsite position based in Sparta, Tennessee.

The anticipated work allocation is:

  • 70% at the Sparta location
  • 10% customer visits
  • 10% outside sales activities
  • 10% trade shows

Actual travel requirements may vary based on customer needs, business priorities, trade‑show schedules, and management direction.
