Job description
In October 2018, the University of Michigan Biosciences Initiative (https://biosciences.umich.edu) provided funding establishing the Michigan Concussion Center (https://concussion.umich.edu). The Michigan Concussion Center implements a multidisciplinary approach to answer fundamental questions about concussion prevention, identification, diagnosis, management, and outcomes.
The Michigan Concussion Center is conducting an open rank search for two Assistant Professors and one Associate/Full Professor in distinct research specialties to engage with the Center by collaborating with existing faculty and staff. Applicants' research should principally focus on concussion driven by the potential for or existing sustainable multidisciplinary external funding. Successful candidates may be placed in one or more of the University of Michigan's 19 independent schools or colleges, (home to 260 degree programs) which places significant value on innovation and collaboration across disciplines. Faculty will also be expected to participate in service activities across campus and within their professional organizations; teach at the medical, graduate, and/or undergraduate levels; and provide clinical care as applicable.
Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan has a long and distinguished history as one of the first public universities in the nation. It is one of only two public institutions consistently ranked among the nation's top ten universities. The University of Michigan has one of the largest health care complexes in the world and one of the best library systems in the United States. With more than $1 billion in research expenditures annually, the university has the second largest research expenditure among all universities in the nation. The university has an annual general fund budget of more than $2.1 billion and an endowment valued at more than $10.9 billion. The university's prominent athletic programs and outstanding academic programs in medicine, engineering, and other related disciplines provide ideal collaborative opportunities for the Michigan Concussion Center faculty.
Qualifications
Neuroimaging: A MD/DO and/or PhD is required, and fellowship or postdoctoral training is highly desirable. Individuals with training and expertise in the study of advanced neuroimaging modalities (e.g. MRI, EEG, fNIRS, etc.) related to concussion are encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will have demonstrated or have potential for the following: 1) to secure extramural funding that maintains a robust research agenda, 2) to mentor trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral, and/or resident/fellow level, and 3) to teach at the medical, graduate, and/or undergraduate level in their area of expertise. Academic rank will be determined based on the candidate pool.
