Job description

Description
The Department of Environmental Studies at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Environmental Governance, at the rank of Assistant Professor. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, policy, and humanities backgrounds (e.g., political science, public policy, law, international relations, political theory, philosophy, environmental studies, sociology, economics, geography, anthropology). Candidates are expected to possess a PhD by September 2027. We are particularly interested in scholars who study global environmental politics, climate governance, environmental law and policy, non-state actors and social movements, and/or energy transitions. The successful applicant will be an interdisciplinary scholar with a strong record of research and publishing, who is committed to educating Environmental Studies undergraduate majors and minors, and graduate students in our MA and newly-launched PhD program. They will work within a department that emphasizes and encourages transdisciplinary scholarship and systems thinking, and with a faculty whose work spans the natural and social sciences and the humanities. We will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2026. The appointment will begin September 1, 2027, pending administrative and budgetary approval.
Pay Transparency Statement
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $89,000 - $129,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
