Job description

Overview

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Chair of the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland. The chair will lead a research‑active academic department, develop programs with industrial partners, government labs, and foundations, and steward strong academic programs.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership of the research‑active academic department.
  • Program development in partnership with industry, government labs, and foundations.
  • Stewardship of academic programs and engineering education.
  • Engagement with federal, state, and private research funding communities.
  • Promotion of engineering entrepreneurship and translation of research into real‑world technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in bioengineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong leadership ability with proven interpersonal skills.
  • Proven research record with evidence of international recognition.
  • Commitment to engineering education.
  • Qualified for appointment as a tenured full professor in the department.
Remuneration & Benefits

Salary Range: $200,000 – $275,000 per year.

Regular faculty benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement, and paid leave, are available (details upon appointment).
