What is a professional writer?

Professional writers are individuals who earn a living by creating written content for a variety of purposes and audiences. They may work in fields such as journalism, marketing, technical writing, creative writing, or content creation for digital platforms. Their responsibilities often include researching topics, drafting and editing text, and tailoring their writing style to meet the needs of clients or employers. Professional writers can be employed full-time, work as freelancers, or operate their own writing businesses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional Writer, you need excellent command of language, strong research abilities, and a portfolio showcasing your writing experience. Proficiency with word processing software, content management systems, and familiarity with SEO tools or style guides like AP or Chicago Manual of Style are typically expected. Creativity, attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this field. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing compelling, accurate, and audience-focused content that meets client or publication standards.

How does a professional writer typically collaborate with editors and other team members during a project?

Professional writers often work closely with editors, project managers, and sometimes designers to ensure the final content meets the project's objectives and quality standards. Collaboration usually involves participating in brainstorming sessions, responding to feedback, and revising drafts based on editorial input. Clear communication and openness to constructive criticism are essential, as writers frequently go through multiple rounds of edits to refine their work. This collaborative process helps align the writing with the team's overall vision and the client's needs.

Job description

About the role:
We are seeking a meticulous, data-driven Global HR Content Writer to take full ownership of our flagship resource, Globalpedia. Your primary mission will be to maintain, audit, and continuously refresh our country-specific expansion and compliance guides (covering employment laws, payroll, benefits, and tax regulations worldwide).

Because our audience increasingly uses AI search engines (like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google Search Generative Experience) to find global expansion answers, AI optimization is a core pillar of this role. You won't just be writing for humans; you will be structuring data so AI models recognize our content as the definitive, authoritative source.

What you'll do:

  • Continuous Content Lifecycle Management: Own the rolling 6-month refresh cycle for all country pages within Globalpedia, ensuring no guide goes stale.
  • Absolute Factual Accuracy: Research and update hyper-specific country data, including local labor laws, termination policies, mandatory statutory benefits, and tax brackets.
  • AI Search Optimization (GEO/AIO): Structure content to maximize visibility in AI-driven search engines. This includes utilizing clear schema patterns, answering direct intent questions concisely, and building high-information-density copy that AI crawlers prioritize.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay ahead of global employment law shifts, executing rapid updates to pages when major legal changes occur.

What we're looking for:
Minimum requirements:

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional writing experience, specifically managing large-scale knowledge bases, technical documentation, or global enterprise content.
  • AI & SEO Savvy: Deep understanding of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) tactics, semantic search, NLP (Natural Language Processing) friendly formatting, and traditional SEO.
  • Extreme Attention to Detail: You are someone who catches the nuance between a statutory requirement and a common local market practice.
  • HR Knowledge (Huge Bonus): Prior experience in Global HR, international employment law, Professional Employer Organization (PEO), or Employer of Record (EOR) industries is highly preferred.

We will consider for employment all qualified applicants who meet the inherent requirements for the position. Please note that background checks are required, and this may include criminal record checks.

The annual gross base salary range for this position is $106,400 - $133,000 plus variable compensation.

We will consider for employment all qualified applicants, including those with arrest records, conviction records, or other criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of any applicable state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, and the New York City Fair Chance Act.
